My family moved from the uk to auckland after my first year of school. I found the kids pretty friendly but did get hassled for my broad lancashire accent at first.
It depends where you are too. South Acks got a reputation for being rougher, North Ack for being a bit snotty, and Auckland in general as being alot less friendly than the rest of the country.
Compared to Australia (lived there for a while too) I'd say the girls are friendlier in nz but the guys are less rough in aussie.
Good luck

Really good question! I'd love to know that too, but from what I see on TV they are similar to australian, but they do have additional problems with drugs and alcohol, so I guess that as people they have more problems than australians, but that won't tell you how nice they are.
You have asked a couple times now are NZ kids violent in schools.

Bottom line is in my opinion is it's up to the kids upbringing if they are violent or not, it has nothing to do with the school itself, although any city or country has it's 'bad' areas.

My son spent half of his schooling in NZ and now his other half in Aussie. As mentioned before I believe the subjects and what they have to offer is much better in Aussie but NZ isn't bad - depends on the what city.

Any school in any country always has an 'in' group or some bullies - face facts, you can not ecape from that.... remember back when you were at school.

To me that it is like you asking - what adults are more violent - Aussie ones or NZ. There is NO simple answer.
New Zealand has lots of people entering all the time. Most schools (mainly in larger centres) have reasonable numbers of international students now (mainly from asia). Some people I would not say are overly happy with them, and they do not always mix with them, but I would say overall they do interact with them in a positive way.
Of course you will always get the bad eggs no matter where you are, but in general most kids are tolerant and welcoming.
I worked in schools in the uk and found them much less tolerant (ie this is england...what u doin here? ) at least from a foreigners point of view!!!
They will be very welcolming. Dont forget they are kids. No matter where you go kids will be kids. There are the bullies, the popular kids, unpopular kids, shy kids etc. I know you kids will fit right in no problems and will make friends on the first day of school.

Please dont hesitate to email me if you woul like any information about new zealand schools and or anything eles. I will do my best to get some information for you.
you will usually have to include yourself, otherwise people will think you are not interested, if you can speak good english and do normal classes you will normally fit in, there were people from brazil, germany and japan who got on well at my school. unfortunately some of the male asian students get a reputation of being 'dodgy' because they tend to act in a way that we deem sexist. year 10 is the hardest to fit into.
