What months make up an Australian summer? |
Travel Info In the northern hemisphere, summer runs from June 21-Sept 20 and that's our hot season. In Australia though their hot season is reversed. So would an Australian actually call the period Dec 21-Mar 20 "summer" or "winter"? In other words, if I see something from Australia - for an Australian audience - talking about summer, is it more likely to be referring to Dec 21 - Mar 20 or Jun 21 - Sept 20? Travel Tips Like all countries in the southern hemisphere (the hemisphere south of the Equator), Australia's seasons follow the sequence: Summer: December to February Autumn: March to May Winter: June to August Spring: September to November Australian seasons begin on the first day of the month. Summer - December 1 Autumn - March 1 Winter - June 1 Spring - September 1 In most other countries seasons begin on the twenty-first day of the month. The twenty-first day of December and June are the longest and shortest days. The twenty-first of March and September are the Autumn and Spring solstices.
