On the whole its not too bad (compared to other places that is), but you just have to be sensible.
I know that many tourists get things taken from cars, so make sure as many things are out of sight as you can and lock all doors and windows.

Gang violence....well I have never had any problems with that myself, having lived here all my life. I guess its just certain areas (and I live in the South Island where there are less of them).
Is that the kind of problems you were wondering about????
Growing gap between rich and poor, rising property prices, so homes are unaffordable on ordinary incomes, selling off land and businesses to overseas owners, outsourcing jobs to slave labour countries like China, student debt ( tertiary education used to be almost free here), destruction of workers rights and working conditions, too much immigration.
There are none
we need more immigration! if we had less prices would be even higher here!
one problem is people get on the dole at an early age and expect tax payers to pay for their accomadation that is why there is violence in some areas the government teaches them to expect something for nothing!
racism (like everywhere else)
gap between rich and poor
student debt
secularisation (dont bash me on this, we are having lower social values, compared to larger countries it may not be AS bad but it is getting worse)
we are getting lazier
education is not as good as it was
national identity could be higher
tall poppy syndrome (we dont like people being too arrogant)
Yeah sure a few problems....

Too much green lush pastures, far too much clean unpolluted air, too much respect for elderly, and a great health system.

Far to much job oppourtunities and welfare and awesome health system. A society that is too 'open minded' first to allow women the vote IN THE WORLD! and a country free from war.

I have travelled the world and have seen a lot of poverty, sickness, fighting, pollution and corrupted governments. These are things that make me greatful everyday to be a flightless bird 'kiwi' what is wrong with the rest of the world is they should be more like New Zealand!
