Questions about my trip to Brazil. Please help!?

Travel Info
I am taking a trip with a tour company but because of the high costs I have to remove a few cities from our itinerary.

I am wondering if it it easy to travel from Rio to Salvador on our own(group of 4)

Will we be totally lost looking around in Salvador on our own or will we be ok?

Also, where can I find flights online for flights within Brazil. I tried cheap tickets.com but those flights have to start in the US.

please help!

Travel Tips
Hi :

Have you looked into the Brazilian Air Pass?
The Brazilian Air Pass is an economical way to travel within the country. it is available only to foreigners and Brazilians residing abroad, and is offered by
TAM Airlines

4 Destinations for only US$ 479.00*
Four flight coupons valid for travel anywhere in Brazil. Additional flight coupons may be purchased (up to four more), for US$120 each

oR
Or a cheap airline is GOL

Regarding Bahia I recommend this neat airline:

It even lists some dangerous streets in Bahia.
Have a good trip.

Salvador is as safe as you make it. Stay in the touristy places and you should be fine.

Don't look like a tourist, no fanny-pack no camera around your neck... Take small amounts of money, hide additional money elsewhere on your body.
Taxis are cheap and easy to get, a 30 min taxi ride shouldn't cost more than 10- 20 bucks.

Don't for get to get your brazil visa!

is the cheapest air company,
recently i paid 200 reais or 100 dollars for a one way salvador rio.
It all depends on how comfortable you are with independent travel. In any case, Salvador will be less difficult than some other places.

For flights, try a Brazilian travel agent or BROL, an online service that specializes in Brazil. You'll find them and a few other reputable companies by following the link below.

Flights online: www.tam.com.br or www.voegol.com.br

From Rio to Salvador, you can go with bus, you also can rent a car and get to see Bucios, all the coast of Espiritu Santo and all south of Bahia all the way up to Salvador. For 4 people, I would rent a car, it's more fun and cheaper.

In Salvador, find a place in Pelorinho, it's the old part of the city, Barra is also good, you'll find lot of gringos there.

Good luck and enjoy.
I apologize but from what it sounds like you will be totally lost.

Easy solution for the saavy traveller.

Ask the tour company for contacts, look on the web for contacts, make your reservations, arrange a tour. Salvador is beautiful and the food is crazy. Eat acaraje. It is 50c, wonderful and I even had a t-shirt to prove it but nowhere in the world you can get it (I live in NYC). Also they have Bobo Camarao and great good on another dimension you never tried. Shrimp bigger than hot dogs stuffed with cheese and deep fried. You know about caiparinha. Some restaurants give you a free one while you wait for your meal.

Me personally, I wander around drunk in the middle of the night either alone or with my girlfriend and never had trouble but I am 6'3"/250lb goon from Brooklyn. It feels more dangerous in Rio or Sao Paulo. Especially along Ave. Atlantica at night. Much more trouble in Rio. Just arrange a guide with your hotel for the first day. When you go to the old city (Pellorino???) the streets are confusing and he will show you what you need.

Salvador is only the beginning. In Brazil you can spend the rest your life enjoying new cities and beaches.
