Help. I need advice for my trip to Brazil in July? |
Travel Info I wanted to know what the money situation is like. I am wondering if It's easier to use cash or a credit card. I have a mastercard and a Visa I will be visiting Rio, Salvador, Manaus, and Iguassu Falls. Which of these places accept which type of payment? In other words, when I'm in each of these cities whats the best method of payment that I should use? Travel Tips Some places do not accept international credit cards. Plus, when I go I end up getting lots of craft items from local feirinhas (outdoor markets), and they deal with cash only usually. Ultimately it depends on what you plan on doing while you're there. If you plan of going out to restaurants and shopping at malls, credit cards would be ok. Have fun. Others I just wanted to add that you might consider taking traveller checks. Getting there, you can cash them easily at any Banco do Brasil branch. When you are in Rio and Salvador, you won't want to carry much cash with you. A good idea is an pooch inside your pants Have a good time, you'll love it! I am Brazilian and went to those places (except Manaus) Visa and MasterCard are widely accepted In major cities like the ones you've mentioned, although some cash is always needed to pay smaller amounts like taxis, buses, tickets, street food, etc. You can get cash in any ATM, most of them are connected to Cirrus network. US dollar is not accepted as a mean of payment, if someone accepts the exchange rate will be unfavorable. If you decide bringing dollar bills, you'll find a lot of money exchange offices in tourist areas. We have Master Card and Visa. They could be National or International here. Better you call to Master Card and Visa and ask about. I THINK they accept the international like the national you should check. We use these credit card a lot here! But if you buy something on street probably they will not accept. Only in shops, restaurants, Shopping Centers e etc. You should use in the city S茫o Paulo or Rio de Janeiro, They a big city the Brazil, but it麓s card is used in brazil... I just came from Brazil a month ago, I would strongly advise against using cash. You'll defineatly be targeted as a tourist if your carrying cash. You can withdraw ($R) money from HSBC banks. If you plan on using your credit card not all places accept american creditcards. |
