Is there a lot of racism between blacks and whites in Canada?

Travel Info
I would like to visit Canada and if I like it I would consider moving there to get away from all the negative issues America has. How are the cultures there? Do they still have the same racism as we do in America? I heard everyone has free health care, the air is cleaner and its an overall better country than America.

Hey bud, I'm American living in Canada. No the racsim is not really here for black & white, nothing like I'm used to anyway. The air & cities are cleaner because I believe Canadians take pride in what they have. Canada is extremly diverse in it's culture. For the most part totally free health care is gone.
Generally once a year you pay between 0 - $900 depending on your income to the government. After you get started with life here, I think you'll like it real good. It's a very clean country
and is SAFETY oriented. If you come here, do so with the prior knowledge that the insurance companies run most things in Ontario. When deciding which province you want, remember theres a big employment boom in Alberta & central Ontario is doing well itself. If you smoke, quit, cigarettes are high here & gas is sold by litre not gallon. There is approximately 4 litres to a gallon so if you have a gas guzzler, leave that sucker in the US. Good Luck...

Much less racism. I find it interesting that I had talked over the phone to people who when I met them , much to my surprise, they were black. The accent is identical. The French/English thing is much exagerated.
You will miss the fact that we almost never invade other countries, we did invade the US in 1812, and do invade Florida every year in February.
No...not really racism....you hardly even notice it in Canada. Most interracial couples don't even get looks in Canada...hardly any racism....of course it does exist like any place, but not to the extent that it is in the U.S.
No, not where I live.
Abbotsford .B.C.,
(45 Min's out side of Vancouver Canada)
No we don't have free medical here! But what we do have is minimum medical for the lower income household.
The air is some what polluted in some areas of Canada, I'm only guessing maybe the same as some countries in the states. We are a multicultural place, of all walks of life.
I can only speak for British Columbia only as I no not or how other countries are for racism.
Canada is a very laid back country but make no mistake,
It is a much higher place to live than other places or maybe just the same.
Do your home work first before even thinking about moving here first. Come visit you will love it here.
Born & raised in Canada and traveled far across Canada.
There is institutionalized racism in Canada. Canada has never dealt with racism in the workplace like the US has and it is a largely under-reported issue in Canada.

You're less likely to experience racism on a social basis because Canada never really experienced segregation like the US did. However, the workplace is another ball of wax.

there is almost no overt racism. it simply is not something most people even think about anymore. and when i think of racism issues in canada it isn't even against blacks anyways. where i live at least (beautiful british columbia!!) its not even a thought. the minimal racism i do see is generally more oriented towards people from the middle east or asia. It is extremely illegal to say anything that could be construed as bigotry. if anything we are too PC honestly. I don't think your race would cause you any real issue here. however there are idiots everywhere so you will still meet the odd one.

i live outside vancouver. not too far from abbotsford (place mentioned from comment above) actually. if you want to move to canada move to the west. if you don't mind the lower black pop. its very multicultural and accepting area. and we are generally a more relaxed and open people. and it is simply gorgeous. where i live i can go to the beach, mountains, farms, or forest with less than an hours drive. In the west the air is definately cleaner. less so for the east esp in the toronto area as they get smog rising up from the US border from detroit etc. if you don't want to move to the west move to the maritimes. there really awesome too just smaller pop. avoid ontario and unless you speak french i wouldn't move to quebec.

our healthcare system isn't as good as our government would like you to believe but its still a million times better than americas. while it is "free" there are extra costs you end up paying for (usually fairly minimal) and wait times can be horrendous. and you do indirectly pay in taxes. but you will always get treated as long as you are a canadian citizen.
