Am i still able to get a passport by 2008? |
Travel Info I live in Detroit and I frequently visit Canada (only 10 minutes away). I currently pay child support and I don't have any warrants and I never had any felonies in my life. Will this stop me from obatining a passport by 2008? If I can't get one, isn't that a violation of my rights as an american citizen? Travel Tips If you don't have a criminal record and you are not in arrears with your child support payments, I don't see anything stopping you. Others ur good, i just got one for australia . its not gonna change anytime soon u should if u dont have any warrants or in any criminal proceedings u should be fine... A passport is not a right -- it is a privilege. If you are behind in your child support by $2500 or more you will not be able to get a passport until you are paid in : "Section 51.70 (a) (8) of Title 22 of the Code of Federal Regulations states, in part, that if you are certified to Passport Services by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) to be in arrears of child support payments in excess of $2,500, you are ineligible to receive a U.S. passport . If this applies to you, Passport Services strongly recommends that you contact the appropriate State child support enforcement agency to make payment arrangements before applying for a passport." Having a passport is a privilege, not a right. http://www.travel.state.gov/passport/ppi... |
