It is also part of the Trans-Canada Highway.

But I don't know what you mean by the OTHER name. I have lived in Toronto for all of my 55 years, and can remember when the 401 was built. It has ALWAYS been called the 401 highway.

Maybe you are confusing it with highway 2 or "The Kingston Road" which it was built to replace (but which is still there being used today--closer to the lake than the 401).

Well, I revise my answer...I have just looked and found this link that says it was first called the MacDonald-Cartier Freeway (and I can just barely remember that as well--SORRY!).
