Im an immigrant of canada and would like to leave for a while? |
Travel Info what is the longest time to be away from canada in order not to re apply for citizenship again? Travel Tips If you leave, and you are not a citizen, you will have problems coming back. To be honest, where are you getting all this money that you can afford to leave for an extended period of time. That is a definite red flag right there. Others If you have applied for and not recieved your Permanent Residency paperwork back from the government, DO NOT LEAVE THE COUNTRY, they won't you back in. Now if your just going to the US, you've got 6 months. Citizenship and permanent residency are two different items. Citizenship you must renounce. Permanent residency means that you are in the country of residence for most of any year,,,meaning 6 months plus a day. There are exceptions to that rule, and you should research the web and talk to Canada Customs & Revenue Agency (CCRA). They will give you the exact law. If you want to travel for 5 or 6 months, no problem,,as long as you have your permanent residency card. I honestly believe that if you travel for a couple of years and return back to Canada, you may have a bit of a problem, unless you are filing your tax returns etc. If you actually have received your citizenship, then you can travel for 10 years and still return without any problems. Once you are a citizen,,that's it...you cannot lose it unless you offer to give it up. If you are a Canadian citizen and you have received your citizenship you may leave for 6 months and 1 day. If you have not received your citizenship and are still considered an immigrant waiting for citizenship you cannot leave without losing every step of the application process. If you leave you probably will have a really hard time coming back. |
