What are the us immigration/residency laws for US citizens in Canada?

Travel Info
Can a US citizen just cross the border and hang out in Canada (Quebec, Toronto, Vancouver) for as long as they want, provided they keep renewing their visa?

Travel Tips
There is no visa requirement imposed on US citizens visting Canada. But if you want to stay longer, there's a Temporary Resident Visa, see the requirements here:

Presently, however, if you're not going to school and not working, just hanging around, there's really nobody watching.
Others
Contrary do what everyone else had told you here, there are restrictions. You have to renew your visitor visa every 6 months and customs will question why you need a renewal.

Best thing, become a seasonal resident if you are planning on staying awhile.
