Canadians...What are your opinions on America?

Travel Tips
I LOVE AMERICA!!!!

It's a great place with great people but of course there are people who you will dislike and places you will dislike. To me, Canada is just a smaller America. Mainly the East coast and midwest i compare Canada to. I feel like America is way ahide of Canada in many ways. Politics suck in both Canada and America. Politics suck all together. I like Canada (Ontario mainly GTA) but I think there is more to discover in the USA.
Others
I hope some ice monkeys answer. Everyone of them I ever met hates America and George Bush in particular.
That depends on what. Generally speaking, I like American people. But I don't like American politics, American politicians, or American domestic or foreign policy. I don't like how Americans are brainwashed by the propaganda machine into thinking that their country can do no wrong. I don't like how Americans know little about anything outside of their borders. I like visiting the US. There are many beautiful places. But, I wouldn't want to live there. I feel sorry for the fact that Americans are so paranoid and afraid that everyone is out to get them. Example: the fear they had that Poppy quarters (quarters with a red poppy on them commemorating fallen soldiers) contained 'nanotechnology' to spy on Americans and that some Canadian slipped them into their pockets to track them.
As an "ice monkey" who lived in the US for 5 years, I'll take the bait and answer.

Most Americans are totally unaware of Canada except for the occasional urban myth like "the 9/11 attackers came from Canada", "the stealth nanotechnology dollar coin", "all Canadians hate America rant", etc. but I blame the current sensationalist mainstream media.

I think Americans very similar to Canadians at the grassroots level. Both have cross-sections of society that are bad and good, ignorant and intelligent, rich and poor, etc. I always ask anti-American Canadians "who would you rather have as a neighbour?" China? Cuba? Egypt? and I think the same can be asked of blindly anti-Canadian Americans such as Answerer #2, pick a better neighbour (neighbor).

The main problem on both sides of the border is that people forget that good friends usually disagree with each other but respect each others opinions. It keeps us honest.
Their big, patriotic, and they feel their opinion is the most important. They are powerful and they know it. They tend to shoot first and ask questions later.

I also find it ironic that Americans are fighting and dying to retain their rights to freedom of speech, freedom of religion, and their way of life, but then they do things like persecute Natalie Maines and the Dixie Chicks for speaking out against Bush, brand all Muslims as terrorists, and go to such an extreme that you can't bring a pair of nail clippers on a plane as a carry on item.

But you see, this is why I do not like generalizations. When you write it out like that, it makes it sound like I hate Americans. That is not true. I have been to California, Texas, Ohio, Illinois, Tennessee, New York, and Massachusetts and just about everywhere I went, the people were great and friendly. Nashville and Dallas had the nicest people in the world. Heck, a taxi driver found out I was visiting from Canada and offered to turn off the meter and drive me around Dallas to show me the sights!

It just seems that both of our countries often elect dipsticks as our leaders. They let the lobbyists control the show instead of doing what is right for the whole country.

Maybe it's just me, but the last president I had any respect for was Reagan. He was a no-nonsense guy, charismatic, a family man, and very intelligent. I am sure he did some bonehead things too, but when he spoke you believed him.
Depends. Are we talking about America in general? Because, to be honest, America as a nation is like the arrogant school bully. Lets just say I get the urge to rolls my eyes a lot when discussing the U.S.
As for the individuals, without the Texas or Newfoundland accents, you really can't tell if someone is Canadian or American. I would know, I work in tourism. I spend my days meeting Americans.
