How can I see Canada, (Montreal, Toronto, Niagara Falls, Quebec) in a few days (4-5 days)?

Travel Info
I want to visit Canada before I go back to school. I want to fly to detroit and use the train from there and eventually go up to Quebec and come back to Toronto to fly out of NY. I want to travel economically and I want to stay at very few hotels, which mean I may have to travel overnight. However I was thinking the train rides may not be eight hours. Any advice ...

Travel Tips
Via Rail Canada offers a special Corridor pass that lets you explore both Southern Ontario and Quebec for up to 10 days with unlimited travel. A student Corridor pass is as little as CAD$269. (about US$250)

My suggestion would be to start by taking the trip from Detroit to Windsor by bus or train. Once in Canada, you take the Via Rail train and start as far east as you had wanted to go. Go all the way to Quebec City, which is a nice tourist area with lots to see like the old fort walls, the cobblestone roads, and the look and feel of Europe.

Next, head back to Montreal and check out the old port of Montreal, and the nightlife of the downtown core. Montreal in summer is a city of festivals and there is something to seee for just about everyone. Every Wednesday and Saturday night there is an international fireworks competition going into late August, so that may be the time to show up here.

You can then go to Ottawa and see the nation's capital. There are some historic sites and the parliament buildings are very nice to see. You may be able to get a tour or see some government dignitary. Unlike the Whitehouse, you are allowed on the front lawn and to see things up close.

Then, over to Toronto for a day of sightseeing and shopping. Check out the CN Tower if you can.

Finally, to Niagara Falls to check out the natural beauty, and perhaps go on the Maid of the Mist boat tour, or visit the nearby Niagara Botanical Gardens.

Once there, you can cross over Rainbow bridge and back into the USA at Buffalo, NY and take a plane back to wherever you started from.

As for times, it is 3hrs by car from Quebec City to Montreal, 2hrs from Montreal to Ottawa, 4hrs from Ottawa to Toronto, and a little over an hour from Toronto to Niagara Falls. I have no idea the times by train as I never took those particular routes.

You can also do these trips by Greyhound bus, but the costs are actually likely to be more expensive due to all the different routes you would need to buy. But you can check and see if their Voyageur bus routes in Canada offer a student fare and a pass good for the week.

As for not staying at hotels, other than the train ride from Windsor to Quebec City, none of the trips should be more than a few hours. My suggestion would be to check out any possible youth hostels available in the cities you are planning to visit. For example, the Hotel de Paris in Montreal operates a youth hostel which may be in your budget if all you need is a place to sleep and a shower. Other Travel Tips
Your going to spend a lot of time on the road ,If you REALLY want to VISIT a place...pick one.
The train will be the best and you will see the local country side on the trip. You can check with Via Rail schedule and see if you can go from the motor city to the falls then T.O on to Quebec city then come back to Mont rial and fly to NY from Dorval Intl airport. These trips should be under 8 hrs for each city T.O to Quebec city will be the longest run. If this is during the summer you can usally get a room at the college dorms as they rent them out cheap when they are empty
Maybe if you go to Canada and move on to the others
