Will you have a problem at the Canadian border with a past felony when you have a valid passport?

Travel Tips
Not if you are just entering as a tourist. Immigrating to Canada would not be possible, but visiting is fine.
Others
Sorry, but Charlie's info is incorrect - you can be refused entrance to Canada even as a visitor if you have a criminal record, likewise if you're a Canadian entering the US with a criminal record - you can even be turned back if you have received a full pardon.

Found this on a tourism site:
Criminal Records

Individuals with criminal records wishing to enter Canada can apply for a waiver. This should be done a minimum of 3 - 4 weeks in advance of the intended visit and can take up to 6 months. It should be noted that Driving Under the Influence convictions are considered a criminal offense in Canada Individuals with criminal records without waivers can be refused entry. Contact the nearest port of entry Canada Immigration office for more information. See contact information below.

Persons without waivers who have only DUI's or other less serious criminal convictions and have no criminal convictions in the past 10 years may be considered rehabilitated when they reach the border but this is at the Canada Immigration officer's discretion. A "Remote Area Border Crossing Permit" may assist the Immigration officer in determining admissibility to Canada since it requires normal background checks. This permit costs $30.潞潞 Canadian (approx. $20.潞潞 US). More information regarding the "Remote Area Border Crossing Permit" is available at www.cic.gc.ca/english/visit/ra...
Any nation (even the one of which you are currently a citizen) has the right to refuse entry to ANYONE with a felony conviction from ANY nation.

Canada can (and will) refuse entry to anyone with a criminal conviction (doesn't matter whether it's a felony or misdemeanor); they will also refuse entry to anyone with a felony charge.

A check on a valid passport also brings up the individual's criminal record - the details are linked in the government system (particularly for felonies, which are FEDERAL crimes).
