Marie, Ontario - Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan * Sarnia, Ontario - Port Huron, Michigan * Windsor, Ontario - Interstate 375/Michigan State Highway 10, Detroit, Michigan Ontario/New York *Fort Erie, Ontario - Buffalo, New York *Niagara Falls, Ontario - Niagara Falls, New York *Queenston, Ontario - Lewiston, New York *Hill Island, Ontario - Wellesley Island, *Johnstown, Ontario - Ogdensburg, *Cornwall, Ontario - Massena, New York Please let me know. Thanks Travel Tips The Port Huron-Sarnia crossing is supposed to be better than Detroit-Windsor. It's the recommended crossing by AAA and MapQuest if you plan a trip from Chicago to Toronto (you haveto go through Toronto to get to Ottawa). I've used it a couple of times and even got a TN visa there once so I could work in the US for a year. I live near the Hill Island crossing now and use it quite often to get to Syracuse airport. It is a bit out of the way, but if you are going to be on I-90 you can stay on it right to Syracuse then north on I-81 to the border. There's no interstate connecting I-81 to Ogdensburg, but it is the closest crossing to Ottawa and it gets very little traffic. Massena doesn't get much traffic either, but it's too far east. I've included a link to the Canada Border Services Wait Times website. (I'd be more worried about hitting Chicago or Toronto at rush hour than I would about crossing at Hill Island!) Other Travel Tips well i can tell you that if you take the Detroit/Windsor crossing, it is the only place in America where you go south to get into canada. If you have to go through Iowa, then you really have only two choices to go through: Sarnia and Windsor. That is, if you are looking for the quickest way to get to Ottawa. Any of your other choices are going to take you many hours out of the way and may even add a day or two to your travel time. As far as going through the borders, I always choose Sarnia over Windsor just because Detroit is not so fun to drive through. Generally, going into Canada is really a painless process and has taken me only 30min-1hour at the longest including a pull-over customs check. Often, it takes only around 10 minutes.Early in the mornings or late at night past 9pm usually seem the quickest times in my experience. Getting into Canada has never taken me very long, it is getting back into the United States that takes forever. FLY because there are lines everywhere. You would be best to cross at Sault Ste Marie, or Fort Frances. Too much traffic at Windsor, Buffalo, Niagara Falls, etc. |
