Do you need a driver's licence to ride a moped / scooter in the Cayman Islands? |
Travel Info I know that you require a valid licence to hire a car, but do you need a specific licence to hire a moped or scooter or can anyone above a certain age hire one? Travel Tips Yes for motorcycle, probably for moped but not sure. Nevertheless, when you rent the scooter, they will let you know, and if so they will give you (sell you) a temporary license (the same with cars). Usually cars are 21, but in the Caribbean, sometimes they don't really check or care. FYI: I would n't recommend scooters, ect. to the unexperienced rider, the caymen islands and the caribbean as a whole are not the place to learn. Driving is a bit crazy! Source(s): Live and travel in the West Indies for 4 years Other Travel Tips yes It would appear from the standard of moped driving by tourists that the rental companies do not insist on the holding of a relevant driving licence for moped hire, unlike car hire, where a temporary licence is offered for up to a month on presentation of a valid full driving licence. It is extremely dangerous to contemplate hiring a moped or scooter if you are not used to driving, as driving conditions are perhaps not what you have been accustomed to elsewhere. Presumably you are used to driving on the left, which is a marked advantage. The other horrifying thing is the way in which people abandon the compulsory crash helmets because they find them too hot. As well as risking a fine, you risk your life. No, to hire for a short period you do not. They are a good way to get around the Island, u will have a good time. |
