Travel Info Tips for my 1st cruise? I'm going on the Carnival Glory in Aug. for 7 days.? Travel Tips YOU CAN TYPE THIS QUESTION IN THE SEARCH QUESTIONS AND GET A ZILLION ANSWERS. I HAVE TYPED PAGES ON THIS TOPIC. REMEMBER.. YOU WILL PAY 10 DOLLARS A DAY GRATUITIES. YOU SHOULD HAVE A PASSPORT EVEN IF YOU ARE NOT FLYING OUT OF COUNTRY JUST IN CASE YOU GET SICK AND HAVE TO FLY HOME IN AN EMERGENCY. PASSPORTS TAKE 3 MONTHS SO YOU NEED TO EXPEDITE IT FOR 3 OR 4 WEEKS IF YOU NEED ONE. MOST IMPORTANT THING..YOU ARE ON VACATION THE SECOND YOU DROP YOUR STUFF IN THE CABIN. DON'T HANG AROUND WAITING FOR THE SHIP TO LEAVE PORT. EXPLORE, EAT FOOD, DANCE BY THE POOL WITH THE MUSIC, ..HAVE A DRINK. MAKE RESERVATIONS IMMEDIATELY UPON BOARDING FOR ONE SPECIAL NIGHT IN THEIR SPECIALTY SUPPERCLUB. IT COSTS AN EXTRA 30 DOLLARS FOR TIPPING AND IS QUITE AN EVENT. WELL WORTH IT. STAY AWAY FROM SPAS, BINGO, ART AUCTIONS, UNLESS YOU WANT TO BE HUSTLED INTO SPENDING A LOT OF MONEY YOU DON'T WANT TO SPEND. THE NAME OF THE GAME ON SHIPS IS SELL CHEAP AND HUSTLE HUSTLE HUSTLE. THE PASTRAMI SANDWICHES IN THE UPSTAIRS BUFFET AREA ARE LIKE A NEW YORK DELI. EXCELLENT! THEY HAVE SELF SERVICE ICECREAM HIDDEN IN THE CORNER OUTSIDE THE BUFFET AREA. THEY WANT YOU TO SPEND MONEY FOR THE EXPENSIVE STUFF. LOOK FOR THE SOFT SELF SERVE. DON'T OVERPACK. FORMAL NIGHTS MEANS COCKTAIL DRESS...NICE DRESS..OR FANCIER IFYOU WANT. AND SPORTS JACKET AND TIE OR TUXEDO IF DESIRED. SODAS COST MONEY EVERYWHERE SO IF YOU DRINK THEM BUY A SODA CARD. IF YOU DRINK ALCOHOL THEY WILL AUTO ADD A 15 PERCENT GRATUITY TO THE BILL. OTHER THAN THAT ALL OTHERS ARE COVERED BY THE 10 DOLLARS DAILY. I HOPE YOU BOOED WITH A TRAVEL AGENT. THEY SHOULD HAVE TOLD YOU ALL OF THIS. IF YOU DIDN'T BOOK WITH ONE.. SHAME ON YOU. SUPPORT YOUR LOCAL AGENCY. Others depends on how old you are. If your a kid then you should just chill with people, and if your an adult then you should get drunk and party each night. I've been on several Carnival cruises and am getting ready to go on a quick four day cruise on the Sensation next week. Carnival is pretty good for the money. Entertainment at night is decent. Usually they have a couple of clubs, as well as lounges and bars. Of course, there's also a casino on each ship, as well as the Vegas style shows. At least one night will be formal, so bring appropriate clothes. Some people walk around in shorts and Hawaiian shirts even on formal night and they really stand out. Avoid shopping on the ship, except for duty free alcohol. If you buy alcohol (more than 3 bottles), know this: you will have to get up VERY early on the day you arrive back at the home port to meet with US Customs people. I'm talking 6 a.m. here. So is it really worth it to save ten bucks on that bottle of Absolut? I don't know. Your Sign and Sail card will be what you use for ID and cash on board. It is linked to your credit card. Don't lose it, and don't get carried away. It's easy to do since you never see cash. Drinks are how they make their money on the ships and they can be expensive. Most mixed drinks are $5-7.50. A good deal is to buy a Carnival mug. Then you just pay the refill price. Also, a Fountaincard is a good idea. It costs about $12 and is good for unlimited soft drinks anywhere on the ship for the duration of the cruise. Try Carnival's signature drink, the BBC. It is yummy. Next, choose your shore excursions wisely. They can be very expensive. Generally, boat tours are not worth the money. The more active excursions, like snorkling are more fun and you'll be with a younger crowd. When you're in a port of call, know that these towns eagerly await the arrival of every cruise ship. Usually, several liners will be in the port at the same time and all people coming off the ships will be solicited endlessly by the locals. Don't get suckered. Don't miss the debarkation talk on the last day at sea and get yourself a passport. It makes life so much easier! Finally, just remember that crime does exist even in these tourist friendly towns. Protect your valuables from pickpockets, etc. and try not to wander too far off the main tourist strips. Hope you have fun! Have fun! We just went on our first cruise and LOVED IT!!! I can't wait to do it again. Be prepared to spend a lot of money!!! Drinks and tips add up quick! |
