Belize travellers.....what order would you visit these3 places ........Belize City, Caye Caulker and ambergris |
Travel Info Caye???? I was thinking belize city towards the end because I need to catch a plane home out of Belize city? and have you tried cave tubing? is it fun? Thanks Travel Tips I'm not sure about Ambergris Cay, but San Pedro (on that island) is quite the party place from what I hear. Cay Caulker is probably a better place to relax. Word of advice tho - Belize City is where most of the crime in Belize takes place (possibly because nearly half of the country's population resides in that city). If you want to get a REAL taste of Belize, try Belmopan or San Ignacio. Also, if you go inland that far, take a venture out to Five Sisters Falls - it is gorgeous! If you want a really good picture of it, you can email me and I'll send it to you - I have yet to find a picture of the place on the internet that looks as good as the one I took. The Maya ruin of Xunantunich is also near there, though not as large as Altan Ha. If you're really interested in the Maya ruins tho, you should go to Tikal in Guatamala. It's about a 2 hour drive into Guatamalal, but if you do, take a tour bus or at least bring a Spanish guide with you who knows the country - and don't wear jewelry or anything that might give a person the impression that you have money, just trust me on that. Even in Belize (especially Belize City) you have to be VERY careful with your things, or they WILL disappear. There isn't as much violent crime in Belize as one might expect, but there is a LOT of theft. Make sure everything you have with you is attached to you or something. Otherwise someone will take it. Belizeans are some of the nicest people you'll ever meet, but some of them steal anything that's not tied down! Trust me I know, I was born Belizean! If you're mainly looking for a great resort, I've heard good things about the resorts at Punta Gorda. Although if you go there, I would seriously consider going by plane or boat. There's a road that goes there but I hear it's not a very good one. Punta Gorda is in southern Belize and quite secluded. Others cave tubing is off the hook baby...even if it was at disney world You have to catch a boat in Belize City to get to Caye Caulker. Avoid one second more than needed in Belize City and kick back on Caulker. Unless you like dope dealers skip Ambergris. It depends on your reason for going. I've never been to Ambergris, but I have been to Belize City and Caye Caulker. I have actually spent a lot of time in both. If you want to know what the culture of Belize is really like and how people truly live there, spend some time in Belize City. Eat at Bird's Isle Restaurant. I can't tell you how to get there, but I'm sure once you're there, people can point you in that direction. It sits on the Caribbean in the heart of Belize City. Go during the day, though, and don't go alone just for safety. And you do have to take a water taxi from the heart of Belize City to get to the Caye. Caye Caulker is amazing!! I highly recommend renting a golf cart to get around. Even though it's small, it's so hot that if you have to walk everywhere, you will be miserable. If you have a chance, I also recommend going to the Mayan Ruins. I have been to Altun Ha and truly enjoyed it. Even though you fly in and out of Belize City, the airport is about 25 minutes outside of the actual city, so just catching a plane isn't going to take you to Belize City. Have fun!! |
