Planning a trip to Belize in July. In terms of weather, what do you think I can expect?

Travel Info
Specifically, I know Hurricane season is a risk, but any ideas on just HOW risky it will be in early July?
Also, what can we expect with the rainy season? Will it be a non-stop rain storm or is it more like the Midwest: storms like hell for 30 minutes, sun comes out and dries everything out, and then rains like hell again?
Thanks!

Travel Tips
It will be hot and there will be plenty of mosquitoes. Nobody can gauge the risk of hurricanes, but the season started early this year (as it did this year) and you have to face up to the risk. The risk, however, is offset by the cheaper prices and the less crowded conditions. It can rain for days in this part of the Caribbean and rain can be torrential -- but there again, you might be fortunate and not have any rain. http://belize-guide.info/weather/july/...
It is a most fascinating country, with rich wildlife, ancient ruins and beautiful countryside to explore. My abiding memories are of the Mayan ruins, canoeing down the river and enjoying the wonderful bird and animal life which seemed to be everywhere around. It also has a beautiful coastline with water sport activities. I would urge you not to be put off by the thought of what might never happen, but to see it for yourself.

Be prepared I visited there last October and was very very disappointed. It's like a 3rd world county once you leave the fashion resorts. I would never care to return. It was mid to high 90's in October so be prepared. These people are poor they have very little including no water to drink!
If you are visiting outside of the tourist area and want to hire a driver the drivers need to pay the fee to come and go to Diamonds International because they bought much of the water front land. These people work so hard and now are being taken advantage of. Some of the nicest people were here but also some of the poorest. The vendors outside the gates( gateswhere hired drivers need to pay a tax to enter and exit) sell the merchadise much cheaper. We found some beautiful hand carved items that were just unbelievablely beautiful. Good luck be safe because Belize is not!!!
Liz,
We toured the island of belize with a guide who was born and raised there he is the one who pointed out to our whole group the water barrels at peoles homes and made a point oftelling us there was no water and how poor all the people were. He was so kind and appreciated our interest in the country. He wouldn't allow us to stop for a restroom break at ceratin areas because of the crime... this was at 1:00 in the afternoon. He said the jumgles wer not safe. He is the one who told all the stories and told us to stay at the resorts and not wonder off. I didn't make this story up.
Maybe your parents left for a better life and I applaud them for that but don't come down on me for telling what we were told by a true 60+ year old native that showed us around for hours! I have 7 other people that can testify for what I have said.
http://belize-guide.info/weather/july/... will give you the answers you need. It's been many years since I have been there in July, but I've been there twice in the last 3 years, and it was kind of like what you describe for Midwest storms, but I'm really not sure about in July. The rainy season does start in July, but don't worry about hurricanes - that's not a risk until the fall.

I was born in Belize and my family moved to Canada when I was still pretty young but I've been back a couple of times. The first time was when I met my boyfriend and we now have a baby boy and live in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, tho we might move back to Belize again in the next few years.

As for Lyn - are you for real? Are you sure you went to the same country that I am from? Cuz I don't recall anyone suffering from thirst! Sure there are poor people, but nobody is living in the kind of poverty as the other countries in Central America, and elsewhere in the world. My family was very poor for a while when I was younger and we were hard pressed for food, but never water. And people helped us out because that's what Belizeans do - we help each other out! I don't remember one story about somebody starving to death! Quite frankly, I'm offended by your "observations" and what you try to label me as. And by the way, people there are probably happier with what they do have, than you are with what you have. If you think you've got the money, at least leave us our damn dignity!

common sense - sorry about the rant, that guy just took a personal shot at me as far as I'm concerned. And by the way, Belize is not technically a third world country - we are better off than that. What we don't appreciate tho is tourists sticking their nose up at us.

I don't know exactly what you're planning to do there, but there is LOTS to do. The cays are absolutely beautiful, and Belize has the longest living barrier reef in the world, so it's an awesome place to go diving, I would say the best in the world!

There are also jungle trecks, caving, and maya ruins. All are fabulous ways to spend your time. If you want accurate information, feel free to email me and ask.
