Taking a cruise to western caribbean. Would like to know a few things if anyones been there? |
Travel Info I went to st maartin before and noticed no matter where I went there were people trying to sell you pot. Very uncomfortable feeling. Does that happen in mexico? Going to cosumel. grand cayman. belize. What are the laws on that there? Also anyone make a suggestion on what do do when you go to those islands? What to wear? also never been on a cruise any pointers for us. Thanks Travel Tips Oh...where to start. Mexico is Mexico. There's not a lot of people trying to sell you pot - but they will try to sell you anything and everything. On our cruise, we didn't do any shore excursions while in Cozumel - we just toured the downtown areas, ate, shopped totally relaxed - and we loved it. Grand Cayman on the other hand - it's paradise. Literally. The locals are wonderful, friendly, helpful and totally hospitable. If you go, you *HAVE* to do Stingray City and swim with the rays - truly incredible. The turtle farm was great too. The Caymans are a part of the British Commonwealth, plus with their rich banking industry, it makes for a great place. Our cruise didn't take us to Belize, but I want to go. Heard it was like Mexico, just not as bad for selling. Take shorts, t-shirts and swimsuits. Pack dramimine before you go so you don't have to fight to buy it on the boat. Our western cruise was horrible the first two days with the boat pitching - but our Mexican was great - no pitching at all and you wouldn't even know you were cruising on the water. If you've never been on a cruise before, start taking the dramimine before you go on the boat (the day before) so that it's in your system when you leave the port. Hope this helps! Others Have NOT A CLUE where or when you had that experience in Sint Maarten - they are DEATH on drugs...I have been there 12 times over the years [last time just last summer] and NEVER had that experience. Perhaps you just ran into a'bad group'... Mexico can be challenging...rather than bad mouth the country I suggest you read up on it on the State Department's Consulate site...you will see the dangers...but if you use some good common sense you can have a good time. And it's Cozumel with a Z Belize can be grand fun - take the river/speed boat excursion into the Animal Sanctuary We loved it! You will receive EVERY day a list of shore excursions from your cruise ship delivered to your cabin and full explanations will be given even telling you the physical energy ratings for each and the cost. READ your cruise ship's website on clothing...but briefly take shorts, crops, tees, easy walking shoes, sandals, a skirt or two for evenings and a couple dressy outfits for the Captain's dinners. and natch 3-4 swimsuits. I have cruised several times in addition to fly and stays to the Caribbean. Have a great time! |
