Anyone been to Antigua and Barbuda?

Travel Info
I want to take a trip to the Caribbean, and am looking at possible places to go, (I'd go by plane, not a cruise ship) and I came across Antigua and Barbuda.

Well, I'm sorta on a budget, and I heard St. John's is a fairly decent priced place, is that true? Also, I'd like to know if the islands are touristy, if regular cruise ships visit them, and which of the two islands is best to stay at. And what there is to do, and how to travel between the two islands, and if you can take a plane to the islands. Just general info so I can decide if it's the place for me or not. Thanks!

Travel Tips
I went to Antigua for my honeymoon in 99. I loved it very much. St Johns is a pretty typical city with lots of duty free shopping and lots of locals looking to sell you things. I found the island as a whole not as touristy as other places in the Carribean. There are some wonderful places to see and some great music to hear. The food is pretty much americanized per se but we had some local fare and enjoyed it but you would have to go off the beaten path. The Beaches are nice. I will say though that it is not a cheap place. Taxis are expensive and its the only way really to get around. Getting there is expensive as well. The roads there are awful too. If I was to go cheap I would shoot for Dominican Republic or Nassau.

Go to Jamaica instead. The experience and culture is better.

Despite the details that you have provided, this is difficult to answer. I've been to just about all of the islands, and each is unique. Don't worry about the cruise ships, they come and go, discharging passengers for duty free shopping or excursions (I'm not knocking cruises, I just went on my first, 14 day cruise to the Caribbean, and LOVED it). As for the rest, I've been going to the Caribbean (by air) each February for the last 15 years. As you are on a budget, I would say that you can find accommodations on all the islands that are modest (might have to walk a block or two to the beach(es). However, you really have to check out the air fares. From where I am, I can fly to St. Lucia, Martinique or Guadeloupe very cheaply. To fly from here (Montreal) to Antigua was expensive, and involved MULTIPLE transfers, and LONG waits. But if you live in Miami, that's not a problem. However, it was worth the hassle. Antigua is a beautiful place, beautiful beaches, beautiful people (Eric Clapton has a home there). You can get to Barbuda from Antigua by boat or plane, but stay in Antigua. What to do? Snorkel, check out the rain forest (the local taxi drivers are great for this), lie on the beach and read, walk, eat, drink and be merry. Okay, I'm running off at the mouth...If you need more information, just ask.
