Has anyone visited Orient Beach in St. Martin - it has a nude section......? |
Travel Info Whats it like? Is it worth the trip from Philipsburg to visit it? Thanks Travel Tips Spent nine days there a few years back. The beach is about 1-1/2 miles long. 1/3 of the beach is empty and has not (at least three years ago) been developed. 1/2 is fronted by hotels and restaurants with beach chair rentals and water sports vendors. About 1/6 is past a break water, in front of Club Orient, and is nude. The beach is quite pleasant. Being that it is a French island, topless is very common on the entire beach. People who wish to lie out nude stick to the area in front of Club Orient or in a couple of small patches towards the undeveloped part of the beach. By tradition, people do walk nude the entire length of the beach but they stick down towards the water line while doing so. The only place where it is acceptable to go up to the restaurants and vendors without clothes is again at Club Orient. OK, one small exception to that, there is a swimwear shop just outside of Club Orient where the husband and wife proprietors rarely if ever were anything. There is some sort of irony in that. As for making the tirp from Philipsburg, Orient Beach is about as far from the cruise port as you can get on the island. You'll loose about an hour round trip of your shore stay getting to and from the beach. If you are going there just for a quick look, it probably isn't worth it. If you have the entire day and you wish to lay out without a swimsuit then it is one of the best beaches in the Caribbean. The wind was quite brisk that made it quite uncomfortable. Lots of gawkers from the cruise ships. After checking around there are lots of other beaches that weren't so busy and nudity was ok, Bay Rouge, Plum Bay. our favorite was Cupecoy. Checking the web Cupecoy now seems to have a fair amount of sexual activity. orientbeach.com Yes, been to Orient Beach , beach was nice, everyone should visit this beach only part of the beach is clothing optional near the end where club orient is but people can walk the beach while being naked |
