Is it dumb for me to move to Haiti?? |
Travel Info So I have accepted a 1yr placement in Limbe, Haiti(I am a nurse)! I am so excited. My parents arent excited. I lived in Port Au Prince for 4 and a half months and was fine, but they were worried sick of me the entire time. I don't know what to do I mean I really want to do this but my parents are so against it( I am going to be turning 21)! ahh I am so confused. what do you all think? should I listen to my parents or follow my gut? I know what its like down there I know its dangerous, but what can I say I like to be in the middle of it all I want to be involved in making a difference! so any opinions would be great:) Travel Tips being a nurse in Haiti is awesome. I'm really happy that you can go there and be a nurse to help take care of this suffering country. but I can see why your parents are nervous. they probably want the best for you, and i mean, ALL parents can be overprotective at times. You are 21, and (I'm not trying to be mean,) but your parents might just have to deal with it. You can do what you want. So i think you go with what you think is best. Others We have some friends that are there as Missionaries. They have lived in Maryland for a VERY long time. Anyway, they felt that they had a calling to be there, but hate it. They know that they're helping people (not just spiritually - but physically as well) but when they get a sign to come back to the US, they'll be on a plane the next day. Think long and hard about it. Weigh the options. And please don't take my response as "the one". I'm sure other people will have more positive comments about it. Either way, good luck with everything. I live in the caribbean and I haven't heard about any situation in Haiti for a while. Because you lived there before you will know better what to do and don't and how it is. Are you going with a recognized organization: Red Cross, UN? If so,then you will have extra security. As I told you before right now Haiti is in apparent calm and I don't see any problem for you. Also, you can call the Embassy, they will give you information that will help your parents understand the real situation there. Good luck. |
