When is the best time to take Caribbean cruz? |
Travel Info who? where? what? when? How? i will take any tips and ideas from what to wear, where to go, best cruz ships, attractions, what to look out for.. please fill me in on anything and everything! Travel Tips April through June are lovely times of the year to cruise the Caribbean. The weather isn't scorching but it's sunny. Sailing earlier in the year tends to be a bit cooler and, of course, anytime you sail around October you have a possibility of tropical storms and hurricanes. Generally speaking, you should be safe with plenty of short-sleeves shirts/blouses....some shorts...a few pairs of khaki pants and a few outfits for the main dining rooms. Most cruises today are enormously casual so don't feel like you need to take lots of dresses or coat/ties unless you really just want to. If you take a Carnival cruise, opt for one of their largest ships. The newer ships are extraordinary and the service is far better than if you sail on an older, smaller ship. Unless it's changed in the last few years, you'll be asked if you want to purchase a beverage card that will allow you to have unlimited soft drinks. If you tend to drink a lot of Cokes, this will pay for itself many times over as soft-drinks are considered a "bar beverage" and are not included in the price of your cruise. (Without it, you'll have to pay per drink or stick with the tea, water and juices provided at no charge.) As far as "things to do", I recommend that you go the "excursion desk" very quickly after boarding. It'll be in the main lobby of the ship and they will be able to assist you in planning some of the extras that are available like swimming with stingrays, jetskiing, riding horseback on the beach, snorkeling trips, jungle tours, zipline tours, etc. These trips often fill up quickly so make sure you book them in advance or as soon as you get on the ship. (You CAN schedule these things with vendors when you arrive at a port of call but, by using the ship's recommended vendors, you have more recourse in the unlikely event that you're dissatisfied with some part of the excursion. If you book the trip yourself with someone in the port, the cruise line will not usually assist you in getting satisfaction.) Above all, plan to have LOTS of fun! Cruising is a great way to see many places without having to spend a fortune. Plus, if you find a place you love, you can always plan to go back later and stay longer! Have fun! Above all, have a blast Others oooooo now now go now what r u waiting for lady!!! go, id be gone already, doesnt matter about clothes just leave right now, go on off with ya!!!! I've taken the NCL cruises twice to the western Caribbean - Cozumel, Cancun, Roatan, Belize; and I've had a wonderful time both times. We left on 9/11 on the first trip -- right into a hurricane, so I'd probably avoid doing that again. The seas were so high that one guy had a heart attack, and everything in the ship fell over. This went on for 2 days. I still had a blast. The weather was scorchingly hot though. The second trip was in December. The weather was fantastic. I like NCL because of the freestyle dining. We could eat whenever and with whomever we wanted - or we could eat alone. I'm not much into being scheduled like the cruise ships do. No purses on land; no jewelry - just use common sense. Wear nice summer clothes - nothing bummy or torn. Bring a dress for dress up night. You can go formal if you want -- or not. You can only eat in the formal areas if you're in a dress on that night. But there are plenty of other places to eat instead. Have fun. Learn some Spanish. (It's fun to shop when they don't know you understand the language. I was able to hear what the natives were paying - about 10-20% of what was offered to me.) Oh - and be careful with the credit cards. Talk to the concierge on the ship. Sometimes the merchant charges more than you thought you were being charged -- and there's no recourse because it's overseas. |
