Travel Info What time of year should you avoid traveling to the Caribean (huricane season and all)? Travel Tips I have been to the Caribbean so many times I lost count. I have had hurricanes interrupt my vacations as well. Hurricane season officially starts June 1st and run through the end of November. Mother Nature does not always get the memo though. According to federal weather watchers, things could get a bit rough this year. Released by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration鈥檚 Climate Prediction Center, the 2007 report projects a 75 percent chance that the Atlantic hurricane season will be above normal. The report goes on to predict 13 to 17 named storms, seven to 10 of which could become hurricanes and three to five of which could become major storms, Category 3 or higher. It is hit or miss though. One suggestion I have is to consider a Caribbean Cruise. I was on one during Hurricane Andrew. The ship will avoid the storm as much as possible! After 30 years in the Travel Business I can honestly say I would not avoid going any time of the year. Others Hurricane season starts in June till November - so they say, but it is cheaper to vacation there during those months Hurricane season is June through November, but I've been to the Caribean several times during the season - you can get some great weather and some good deals! For the area of Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic, there is less problems with hurricanes in October and November, than in much other regions of the island and other countries or islands. regards Gilbert Hurricane season, as mentioned above is the riskiest time of the year, and mostly also the cheapest. You can try one of the ABC islands (Aruba, Bonaire and Curacao) during this time of the year. These islands have been spared of any direct impact by hurricanes for the past century.
