What is the weather like in the Caribbean during August? |
Travel Info My girlfriend and I were thinking of going to a Sandals resort in the Caribbean (specifically St. Lucia or Jamaica) and I was wondering what the weather is like during that time. I know its in the middle of hurricane season and I don't want that to ruin my trip. Has anyone been to the carbbean during august? If so, what was it like? any rain, storms, etc? Thanks for the help! Travel Tips Very warm and humid, but very nice for swimming, snorkeling, walking on the beach. I've been twice, both times in the summer. Rained 1 day in Jamaica, but we still snorkeled and it was great. No hurricanes while we were ever there. I would go back anytime of the year. Others NICE!!! world traveler I've been there in August... very hot and humid, but enjoyable nonetheless. Occasionally there was a rainstorm here and there, but they only lasted a few minutes and then went away. It's worth the trip! It will be hot but you should have a nice breeze. Your main concern should be tropical weather. If a depression sets in over the island you could have rain for a few days. If a tropical storm sets in you could have rain and high wind. If there's a hurricane you're screwed. You're taking a calculated risk by going in August so get insurance on your travel package if you can. I've lived in the Caribbean all year round. It can be very hot in August and one carries one's umbrella/lightweight mackintosh around. In some places people even carry Wellingtons, to be able to squelch around in the mud and heavy puddles. But in a resort you really don't need to worry too much. You are taking a chance, but you might hit on a fortnight when there isn't any rain. Even if there is a hurricane, not all hurricanes are major ones and the hurricanes at the lower end of the scale are just like heavy storms. Be positive! The sun is going to shine nearly all the time and you are going to enjoy yourself, particularly as at that time of year you save money on the prices and will have more spare cash to spend. |
