We're going on a caribbean cruise for our silver weding anniversary next week with Ocean Village. Anyone know whether the OV excursions are good value for money or should we do our own thing? never been to caribbean before and a bit nervous. There are so many OV excursions to choose from its a bit overwhelming - need some advice on which are a hit and which are a miss...please . we will be visiting Barbados, Tortola, St Maarten, St Kitts, Antiga, Dominica, Trinidad, Isla Margarita, Grenada, St Lucia, St Vincent - (whoopee)!

I would do your own thing. Get off the boat first and onto the island and then decide what looks interesting. I live on St. Maarten, and know how much the cruise ship people can get ripped off. I am not sure about Ocean Village, but I know on most cruise ships they offer a $75 a person tour of this island on the party/carnival bus. A lot of people pay for it, but when you see it, you will see an old run down bus with no airconditioning decorated with old christmas decorations that look like they have been on there for years. So wait until you are there and if you really want a ride around the island a taxi driver will probably do it for much less, and in airconditioning! We have jet ski and waverunner rental places all over the island, but of course the stand where the cruise ship docks is by far the most expensive one. Most islands have a shopping/tourist area right where the cruise ships dock, so you can always just walk around and look at everything too. Go to Pinel for great snorkeling and take the ferry to Anguilla to swim with dolphins. There are also about 4 casinos on Front Street where you dock. The French cafes are great for lunch and pastries. Have fun! |
