Which island would be best for my family to go to? |
Travel Info My mother and brother both want a relaxing island (which would be anywhere, really), my dad would like history and historical sights, and I would like real culture (not just tourist attractions). We'd all also like places with wildlife (we'd like to go to one of those places where you can play with the dolphins or feed the stingrays...) Sorry if this is all very specific... Anyone have any ideas? THANKS!!! Travel Tips You may get better feed back if you go see a travel agent but my suggestions would be Aruba, Cancun, Punta Cana, Hawaii or even better try a cruise and you purchase shore excursions, a great way to see an island and you get to see more places....... Happy Planning =) Others Barbados is grand. I have been there many times. I usually stay at the Bresmay Apartment Hotel in St. Lawrence Gap http://travel.yahoo.com/p-hotel-373118-b... http://travel.yahoo.com/p-reviews-373118... While this isn't an island, I would suggest Cancun, Mexico. The beaches are fairly nice and you can take a day trip over to Isla de Mujeres for shopping or snorkeling. You can also take a day trip to either Chichen Itza or Tulum for Mayan ruins. Tulum is on the coast and you can swim there if you wish. If you go to Tulum, you can stop at a water park on the way back (especially if you rent a car) where they have the dolphins and more opportunities to snorkel. Chichen Itza is awesome but a full day trip into the interior of the Yucatan peninsula. There are organized bus trips which include transport, entrance fees, food and stops for shopping. Cancun has quite a variety of night spots and a full array of water sports. Several visits to Cancun and 12 years living in the Caribbean. Sweet, Curacao has every single one of those things you just mentioned. The island is relaxing, beaches are perfect for a lazy day, and the atmosphere is perfect to help you chill out. History and historical sights?.. the capital of Curacao is one big historical sight. Museums, buildings from the 18th and 19th century, (and a few even older), the Kura Hulanda Museum (one of the best heritage museums in the world), the Curacao Maritiem museum, and many more are all located here. Other parts of the island have old plantation houses, overlooking what used to be slave houses and plantations, and much more. Culture?... how'bout some traditional dances, or maybe some traditional foods. Swing by the Old Market (Plasa Bieu), Shete Boca, Awa di Playa, or Playa Forti for some real, Curacao dishes like stewed goat, iguana soup, and many other delecasies. Wildlife is also everywhere. Go by the Christoffel Park for some great hiking, mountain climbing, or deer spotting. Parke Shete Boca, Porto Marie and Watamula are also great places to see. and don;t forget to visit the Curacao Sea Aquarium. You can feed stingraus, flamingoes, turtles, sharks, and also play with dolphins. You can also go to the Ostrich farm, which is the largest outside of Africa to see, touch and feed ostriches from all ages. It's not only just a beautiful country, it has interesting culture/history, sightseeings, etc.. Not only that, but beaches where the sea is light blue and sand white. There's also submarine to go to and see, something like that. There's snorkeling (sp?). Hope this helps. |
