Travel Tips
I have never been to Belize but I did some research on Belize a while back for a possible trip there and I came across this Inn that sounded really nice.
Hidden Valley Inn in San Ignacio. It only has 12 rooms. But the pictures of the property and surrounding area are awesome. Waterfalls right on the property. Very romantic.
Go to this site and research this Inn. Tripadvisor has many reviews and photos. Also it's rated #1 out of 25 as the most popular.

YES.
I just got back from Belize in December.
October is a good time to go as it is after the huricane season and the hot dry and humid season. It is all tropical so expect bugs, and wear light colored thin clothes. It will be around 85-95% but the humidity makes it feel so much warmer.
Belize is a jungle. When you are not in the jungle you are at the beach. This country is predominately "black" with some of Mexican decent. All speak good English and many have ties to Europe.
My suggestion would be to go with a TOUR Package. That way you are safe and will get the full enjoyment of the trip. This is a poor country and crime is high.
Make sure you are staying in a top rate Hotel and nothing else. There are plenty dives.
All the buildings are old and worn so you will not be going there for the clean upscale experience. Be careful where you eat and stay. Their cleanliness is not at all up to US standards and I would drink bottled water or soda or beer.

Since crime is high, dont dress to attract the locals. Tone it down and becareful what you carry like cameras and such.
Many that work with tourists are great but you will also be surrounded by locals who are barely surviving in this poor poor country. They all want to make a buck or more off the Americans. They will ask for handouts and try to sell you all kinds of trinkets. And you should barter even though they may not come down on the price you will always find someone down the street who is cheaper. Plus stay way from all the mass produced junk they sell. Buy from the locals who handmake the items.

The jungle river boats are a great way to see the animals like monkeys, alligators, foxes, jaquars, and boa snakes. We enjoyed that the most. Plus there are lots of old ruins and pyramids to see, so the historical tours are great. I highly recomend Chichen Itza ruins.

Check out Tour Packages on the internet like Travelzoo. If you really want a nice low cost vacation look at Cruise Ships to Belize. We did that and saw Progresso, Cozumel and Belize for around $800 each not counting the mini-tours.
Last Minute cruises are the lowest (within 3 months) and always look at the private sites as they are cheaper than the cruise sites (travelocity, orbitz, travelworm, lastminute.com,
expedia). You will have a great time on ship and will be safe.
Then take the Belize tours when you arrive. We saw a lot but did not have to eat rice and red beans the whole trip. We had gourmet food.

Have Fun...
Just went 3 months ago
when u fly in to belize city take a flight on tropic air to san pedro (an island of the coast)..

trust me it is BEAUTIFUL
my source is my brain because i am beliceno (belizean)
Travel around the country on public transportation. It is an adventure and very, very cheap! Stay inland for part of your trip.....way cheaper! Try Martha's Guesthouse in San Ignacio. Lovely little place with Belizean flavor, clean, cheap, great location, great staff. Don't fly to the key islands, take a boat...much cheaper! Also, Caye Caulker is cheaper than Ambergris Caye, but much slower in place and not much nightlife. Have fun..I love it there.
