However, most foreigners who have been to Haiti have been with missions and have been involved in building projects, education and health care.
The Haitian people are very creative and Haitian art is most distinctive and sold all over the Caribbean area. The paintings are in vibrant colours and there are wonderful handicrafts. The history of Haitian art is discussed here http://www.discoverhaiti.com/artsynop.ht...
Unfortunately the extreme poverty makes it difficult for many people to have access to the materials they need for their creative effort. Indeed, few people are able to go to school and most of those who do owe their education to sponsors overseas. This website will give you details of one such arrangement http://www.loveachild.com/.
When I was in Haiti I was surprised by the fact that women in the village where we stayed had no idea how to sew and did not have access to needle and thread, although they were very enthusiastic to learn how to make things. Similarly, the men had no real access to the tools which would have enabled them to put their talents to good effect.
There are churches of various denominations all over Haiti and they tend to be the focal point of community life. The Haitians are musically gifted, but here again have restricted access to instruments and musical instruction.
The lack of water and the poverty of the soil make it difficult for the people to grow the food which they so desperately need, although the men work long hours in the fields. Women have to work very hard at routine jobs because they have no labour saving devices and have to do everything the hard way.

There are very few tourists in Haiti. There are some resorts in Haiti that are mostly aimed at people from the Dominican Republic. I have no idea what they would do there. I went there as a missionary. I was able to go swimming in the ocean and take a boat ride (on a homemade fishing boat)
