Suggestions for Europe in Winter?

Travel Info
We are planning to spend 4-5 days in Europe between Dec 26-dec 31. We dont ski, so would like to go to someplace that has decent weather and offers sightseeing, nature or heritage.

Any suggestions?

We're travelling with a 18 month old (but she enjoys anything and everything so we luckily don't have to come up with things to entertain her, she's happy even in a museum). And our connecting flight is by Emirates, so would like to stop at some major city.

Thanks in Advance.

Travel Tips
Italy is a dream destination for city breaks, with three of the world's most beautiful cities

From the sunny southern slopes of the Alps to the lush orange groves of Sicilia, Italy offers enormous variety in its natural scenery and historical backgrounds. Because a good part of Italy grew up as a collection of independent city-states, customs and food vary greatly from region to region. This rich history is preserved in the colorful folklore festivals that take place in all of Italy's regions throughout the year

:

Rome:

Where antiquities bask in the sunshine in a colorful and lively capital.

Florence:

Thought by many to be the art capital of the world.

Unique Venice:

The world's most romantic city.

Milan:

For those who are in search of culture or vibrant modernity may prefer the charms of fashionable city.

Majestic Turin:

Is one of the Europe's most visited cities.

Naples:

Where you can dive into the colorful chaos of historic events. Source(s): http://www.atlastrip.com/countries/italy...

It's the height of winter, so what are you expecting, "decent weather"-wise? Europe is cold, ranging from moderate (like Spain) to utterly freezing, Siberia.
Don't listen to the grumps!

The Canary Islands are a province (two actually) of Spain, although they are located just off the West coast of Morrocco. Flight time from the mainland is about two hours. Climate is subtropical and therefore warm in Winter (think Florida without the rainfall - we are roughly on the same latitude as Orlando). Known mainly amongst Brits for beaches and bars, but there is wonderful sightseeing if you like being outdoors, also excellent museums etc on the larger islands (Tenerife and Gran Canaria). Las Ca帽adas del Teide National Park (where the original Planet of the Apes was filmed) is amazing, and the city of La Laguna is a World Heritage Site, just to name two places in Tenerife.

Otherwise, all European capitals may lack good weather in December, but easily make up for it in cultural delights. I would almost say you can't go wrong in London, Paris, Madrid or Amsterdam - also Barcelona is fabulous. Last time I was there was January and although it was cold it was sunny and crisp, and an absolute overload of culture and things to do.

Happy Travels.
In thre Swiss Alps. (Zermatten, Interlaken, etc..) But it will be cold.
Emirates fly to Geneva and Zurich

5 days will be kind of short and with an 18 mos old I would not go sightseeing in cold weather.
I would suggest you go to London, it is not too cold yet that time of year, lots to see, a very interesting City.
go south! We stayed in Spain over Christmas a few years ago (it was my first winter christmas!!!) it was cool, but at least it was sunny, as in the UK, where I was staying you don't see much in the way of sun over this time.

Places like Spain, Italy, Greece, Portugal would be more pleasant temperature wise than anywhere further north....also places like Croatia (but theres no "main place" for you to land there).
I would look inot where you are landing, whats close by and then figure out what would give you the most variation in your days there.
