Are there postal codes for every country? |
Travel Info Are there postal codes for every country? Travel Tips All countries with postal service have their own postal codes. The structure of postal codes varies from country to country. Some are numbers only - 4 digit, 5 digit, or more - some are numbers and letters, like UK or Canada. Additionally there is a country code at least for European countries that you can add or preface to the in-country postal code. These country codes are for example F for France, A for Austria, D for Germany, CH for Switzerland, etc. Sending mail inside of Europe you just add these country codes to the postal code and you don't have to specify the country. But this short cut does not work world wide! Others If You mean "Does a country have postal code?", then - NO. A postal code is used by a country to tell its postal service WHICH AREA IN THAT COUNTRY a particular address is. But the country itself does not have a postal code. If you want to send a letter from USA to say, THAILAND then you will have the address, and city then the postal code of the city but the last word on the envelope will just be THAILAND - there will not (because there is not) a postal code to go on after that. Note too that postal code in some country is more than numerical digits - some has letters and numbers which may signify area, north or south, or other codes. my is 165 55 No, many small countries don't bother with postal codes -- the name of the town or suburb+city is sufficient. |
