What is appropriate to wear when visiting London/Paris? |
Travel Info I'm 20 and have never been to Europe! I'm going to London and Paris this summer and have no clue what to pack! I don't want to look like an obvious tourist but would like to somewhat blend in. Are the style(s) there any different than those in the US? Also, if you have been there, are the French and Britons friendly to Americans? Any other advice is greatly appreciated!!!! Thanks!!! Travel Tips I'm 22 & lived in Europe for a few months. Yes...fashion there is about a year ahead of the US. If you have the money, I would pack a few outfits but buy some there. But also remember that the UK is about two times more expensive than America. To answer your other question about friendliness...I actually thought that French people were friendlier than Britains. My friends & I just had one bad experience in Paris, other than that everyone was friendly. I guess it would depend where you're going in Britain though, I went to London & it's just like busy American cities. Not necessarily rude, just busy! Hope that helps! Others go naked !!! lol same clothes as US. They are "civilized" there. Just whatever you normally wear esp, in summer, jeans, t-shirts, whatever... French don't like americans so much, brits are ok, most are pretty cool. And btw, you WILL look like an obvious trourist, especially in France. You'll see. In London & rest of the U.K I think whatever you normally wear will be fine (eg jeans,/skirt and a nice top), London is pretty trendy and more into their fashion than I've noticed in the U.S but you can get lots of good priced tops and things at places like Topshop, so anything from there and you should blend in with the locals fine! Paris isn't as intimidating as you think it will be, but if you want to not be an obvious tourist I would avoid things like clothing with American football teams or univeristys or camera hanging around your neck. Another way to blend in with the locals is to walk fast and like you know where you are going- even if you have to stop somewhere and have a coffee and read your map/work out your plans. The French are definately more friendly and helpful than the stereotype, I found as long as you smile and say "Bonjour" and ask them if they speak English first, and thanking them for using English with you they are happy to help. London is like any other big city, so people probably keep to themselves but there are lots of other tourists so you should be fine! |
