I am traveling to Europe, can I get money at a bank with my credit card if it is not a debit or ATM card? |
Travel Info Thank you! Travel Tips if its Visa or Mastercard most ATMs will allow you to withdraw cash if you have a PIN. However most banks will let you buy currency with your credit card for a charge. Please note you will need your passport and there maybe a limit to the amount you can buy. Also note banks in Europe outside of England have sporadic opening. In Belgium a lot of banks close on Monday, In Germany a lot of Banks close wednesday afternoon. In Spain banks open at 8.30 and close at 2 pm for the rest of the day. Be careful using a currency exchange place as they can charge you upto 10% commission, banks are better. So wherever you go please check the banking regulations and opening times Others You can get a cash advance on your credit card (without using a pin #) from the money exchange places, ussually at the airports will do them for you as long as you have your passport. I found this really handy when I didn't have a pin # to do cash advances on my Credit card. The exchange of information, transaction data and money among banks. Interchange systems are managed by Visa and MasterCard associations according to their requirements and are very standardized so banks and merchants worldwide can use them. Interchange Fee A fee paid by the acquiring bank/merchant bank to the issuing bank. The fee compensates the issuer for the time after settlement with the acquiring bank/merchant bank and before it recoups the settlement value from the cardholder Interchange Rate Interchange rates are baseline costs established by the two bankcard associations, Visa and MasterCard, on behalf of their member banks that set the foundation costs which makeup the merchant's bank card processing fees. Additional fees may be added by the merchants acquiring bank to reach a final rate called the "discount rate". Read more from: http://www.credit-card-forums.com/post/3... You might be better off buying prepaid debit cards their with your credit card. This way you only pay the exchange fees once. I am not sure if Europe has those yet. It be better to do it in the States |
