I'm going to Germany?

Travel Info
My grandmother is taking me to Germany in August. We will be visiting the Dachau concentration camp and I had read online at a travel site, that it seems somewhat rude when people take pictures. I can sort of understand it; you're supposed to be there remembering those lost (I had a great grandmother there) and it's not supposed to be a big tourist fun place. But at the same time, I want to be able to show my friends and family what it's like; as the saying goes "a picture's worth a thousand words." I also want to be able to look back a later and remember the things I saw.

So what do you guys think.....would it be rude, inpolite, disheartening, etc if I took pictures?

Travel Tips
I'm sure that nobody will kick you off the grounds for taking a photo or two in the open-air part of the memorial. You should probably avoid posing for a photo or having someone pose, because that would make you a "stupid touristy American", for sure. Also, obviously, don't take any photos that would have strangers' faces on them, especially if they are praying or crying or taking a moment of silence. Not sure if they are rules in the museum part of the memorial complex.

However, there is plenty of English-language merchandise available to buy at the memorial (since access is free, this is partly how they finance maintaining the place): picture books, slide shows, documentary DVDs, etc. So even if you don't take a single photo, you'll be able to bring home visual touchstones.
Others
It wouldn't be rude if it was ur family but I think it should a also be a good thing to take pics. of others because they deserve to be remembered. Just don't take pics. where others are remembering cause that would be rude.
I don't think it would be rude because its part of your family's past. Take pictures if someone gives you a dirty look tell them to shut the hell up. Good luck!
i am also visiting this summer....my husband is taking me to the one in Poland ..but i dont think u will be rude for taking pics...

i would do the same to show friends and families..

hope u have a nice trip...
