Why do Europeans have better table manners then most Americans? |
Travel Info I have been to Europe( Holland,France,Belgium, Spain,Germany). Most of the people I see eating there use a knife and a fork to eat with and they use them properly. When I got back to the US, I went out to eat, and people over here eat mainly with just a fork. I'm an American too. Travel Tips Its a cultural deal. Americans are more into the fast food and fast pacedlife They dont have the patience to sit down and enjoy a meal using their silverware accordingly. It also has to do with the way you were raised. In my family, we always used our knives and forks when eating Others It seems there is a whole generation out there that thinks manners don't matter anymore. Do what you want and if someone doesn't like it they don't have to look. I think it all started in the 80's, when everything was about ME, ME, ME! It's a shame. I麓m American also and currently live in Barcelona.. I think that eating property is something that you grew up with.. Not all Americans eat with just a fork or all Europeans have the best table manners.. Its a personal thing.. I grew up with parents who taught me table manners on how to use silverware etc... I have seen Spaniards who eat worse then anything , and i have seen Americans who have great manners.. Take care! Bcn_mimosa from Barcelona, Spain How do you use a fork to cut a steak??? Besides, I'm not sure that counts as table manners more like utensil mechanics. I really doubt that the average European has better table manners but I don't see how they could have worse. Unfortunately, table manners seems to have become a thing of the past. It is a matter of culture, not manners. Here, we consider a knife in hand a challenge or threat..going way back to England. Blame us for tradition, not manners in the case of fork switching, and usage of a knife. We place a used knife at the top of our plate, cutting edge tword the diner. They place it on the plates edge, Is one more correct than the other? No, its cultural. My German tutor, and travel. |
