Info on Hungary...? |
Travel Info Hi =] I'm travelling to Hungary this mid-July, (Buda) only for a short while, but to make the trip memorable and to be properly prepared, if anyone has any info on Hungary, please share. Concerning the Weather, currency, cheap/expensive, sites to see, local shops to visit/what european shops there are, any specific events and any other general info on Hungarian way of life/culture and the people. Many thanks xx Travel Tips I was traveling through Eastern Europe this May and spent 2 days in Budapest. I highly recommend renting a bike and start trekking early one morning and spend all day. Just take two 1 liter bottled of water in your pack and you will be good. I know you can do it. We had a girl from London who was able to keep up with us all day and she wasn't in the best of shape. The city is relativley flat and you can spend all day bycycling. To go to the castle, you can lock your bike at the bottom of the hill and take the bus to the top. Also, I wouldn't waste time on the labrynth. It is all a joke. There are alleged 1 million year old fossils in there and it is of a cell phone and coke can, etc.. I only liked it because it was a chance to cool off from the 32c heat Also, Disco club meand dance club. Night club means strip club. Sex club means brothel. Another tip: seems everyone likes there water with carbonation. If this is not you, squeeze the bottled water before you buy it. If you can't make a dent in the bottle, it carbonated. After a long day of sightseeing, it's cool to take a 1 hour riverboat ride to relax. Trying to convert there currency is crazy. For 8 people, our dinner tab was 36,180 fornit. Everything is reasonably priced. enjoy. Others Wow, lucky you going to Hungary.... it was one of the best places i visited in Europe. I didn't really know what to expect but i loved it. i found it pretty cheap, especially compared to other places in Europe. the other great thing is it isn't as 'touristy' as other places, yet the churches, buildings etc are just as amazing. it is part of the EU now, so i assume they use the euro (when i went it wasn't part of the eu, so it may be more expensive now depending on your currency exchange). Budapest is divided into two parts - Buda and Pest, separated by the river Danube, Buda is the old part on a hill, and Pest is newer, and flat. it is a great city. some of the best things were - the food is fantastic, the hot springs, Budapest is located on top of many thermal springs, so there are numerous hot baths you can go to, some are women or men only, we went to a unisex one at Hotel Gellert. there are many great historic sites etc, check out more detail on the wikipedia page below. a few towns just outside of Budapest were lovely..... such as Szentendre which is very old, cobbled streets, Visegrad (along the Danube, has an amazing castle, with very weird wax museum), Esztergom (has an amazing basilica, the largest church in Hungary). what else? mmm.... just go and enjoy! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/visegr%c3%a... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/esztergom... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/budapest... Hello! I am Hungarian, so I can tell you a few things about this country. Actually the weather is really hot, and it will be during the whole summer. So you need only slippers, a few t-shirt (or whatever the girls call that small things they wear), short skirts and orange knickers, because I love them:) Sometimes it's raining, and a light yellow sweater could be useful especially at nights. The currency is the Hungarian Forint, 1 US$ equal about 190 HUF. The capital city is Budapest ( I'm shure you'll arrive there) and the most interesting things for tourist are there. The only thing that I can advise you to walk a lot, because if you'd like to catch the atmosphere of Hungary you have to go to the "hidden" small streets. And finally: beware of the local boys! We love to hunt for foreign girls:) use google first! While you're in Budapest, you may check out Budapest Freecycle yahoogroup. It's a group for people who want to give away stuff for free: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/budapest-m... (You'll see a lot of Hungarian writing here, but almost everything is translated to English, so you'll have no problem understanding...) Hi, I live in hungary so if you need any help you can reach me by e-mail or by phone at 36206628225. About the weather is very hot now, and you have to be prepaired that evrything is expensive if you go to the first shop, like in Vaci-utca, and taxi drivers sometimes cheat you. Currency 180-200ft=$1 |
