Has anyone travelled to Lyon, France by themself? |
Travel Info Like any place, no matter how safe they say it is, there's crime everywhere. My friends are worried that I'm a 23 year old female traveling by myself to Lyon. Ive done my share of traveling but to mainly english speaking countries. Im up for the challenge and Im not an ignorant traveller who's going to demand everyone speak english. Does anyone know if Lyon is a tourist friendly city? Also, Is it better to fly to Lyon or take a train there. The airport is 25 Km out of the city but i dont know if the trainstation is in the city. Id rather take a train and arrive in the city than have to take a bus from the airport to my hostel/hotel. Does anyone recommend a nice cheap place to stay in Lyon? Travel Tips First if you come from Paris, it's really more pratical, you will reach Lyon downtown in 2 hours. There are some shuttles from airport to downtown and other cities http://www.lyon.aeroport.fr/index.php?mo... sorry the english version is currently unavailable Lyon is maybe more safe than Paris because it's smaller, but like any big cities, in some suburbs there's crime. But I guess you will go to the touristic places so it should be OK. During evenings and night, be careful in the subway from the pickpocket. You can also use V茅lo'v (bike locations service) at any time if you don't have to walk alone . Others ive never left north america. I think Lyon is a wonderfully friendly place to visit--much more so than Paris, for instance. If it were me, if you can take the train, do so. The main train station (Part-Dieu) will drop you off very near the middle of town as well as in easy reach of the train system. I don't know whether you'd call it cheap or not, but I've stayed in the Hotel Carlton (a few blocks north of Place Bellecour) and it's pretty great. Do learn some French, though...but also know that I didn't get one poor reaction to my hideous accent, and everyone was fairly friendly and tolerant of me. Enjoy your trip! I visited Lyon last year, and I'll be heading there again in four weeks! :) |
