Students going to Europe. Advice? |
Travel Info Hi, me and a friend are going to London, Paris, and Italy. We are going to do all the major historical and cultural things in these places, but I'm worried about us (esepcially him) getting bored. What are some things in these places to do that are geared more toward younger travelers. I just don't want to save up all my money then be ready to shoot myself if I step inside one more museum. Any help or advice is appreciated In addition, are there any major, forseeable problems we might have if we are both under 19? Travel Tips Bored? If you don't understand anything that you see, you will get bored.Study a little , it helps. Look beforehand into something that interests you and learn about those things and look after them. The net, Wikipedia, your local library is full of things that help. Not only general travel guides but special things like.Beatles in London or ancient roman influence in England or ...Find Asterix -he is the hero of a comic book series, and he visits Britain and Italy -the books are hilariously funny -they have been translated into English-original French -and following in his footsteps would be amusing -or whatever. Remember: the mind does not need constant input.sometimes it is the best thing that can happen that we sit in a foreign city by the coffee cup and feel bored. You will find yourself generating new ideas and yourself noticing new things when you are not constantly entertained. When you go to Italy, go and see Siena: it is unbelievable.Florence and Pisa will be full of tourists, very worth seeing , but... Siena is unbelievable! Bienvenuto! Others There are no problems with youth travelling in Europe. Almost everybody speaks English (as a second language) - no problems with language. The cheapest way to travel is the rails. Buy a Euro rail pass which is cheap and gets you anywhere. Europe has the best rail service..... high speed trains that travel on average 240 to 280km /hour like ICE (Inter City Express) in Germany. Further - there are plenty of youth hostels for young travelers where they can stay overnight. The museums in Europe are fun! I have seen most of them. You have to see European culture and especially the art. The German Museum in Munich is great. It takes a few weeks to see everything in the hundreds of rooms. Goog luck and plenty of fun! Definitely get a rail pass across the countries you are traveling! It's key. Check raileurope.com. Get a Eurostar from London > Paris - and then depending how you get to Italy, you'll need a 1 or 2 country pass. I had to call them to get the best explanation to be brutally honest with you. As for London, just get a taste of pub life. I recommend a day trip to the Cotswolds too, lovely area in the South of England. Try Brighton for the beaches too. As for France, venture out around the city. I'd recommend the Cote D'Azur, but that's a 6-7 hr train ride in itself, however, on the way to Italia, it's perfect. Check out Nice, Monaco, and Cannes - that's where I'm headed this summer! Be adventurous, and safe. Hit the nightlife. More to Europe than museums, cough, beer. well, i assume that you're visiting all the main places... i live in europe and travelling there it's really easy and very cheap... sometimes plain tickets can be a lot cheaper than a train ticket (ryan air, easy jet, etc....all those small companies, there are plenty of them in each country). There's also the possibility of taking the bus. It's VERY cheap and not that bad. For our winter break we went on a little trip and we did not stayed in hostels or anything, we used hospitality club. Besides not paying for a place to crash, most of the times the hosts are really nice people that show you around town and go out with you at night. It's a much better way to know the city, plus you get to make some friends. And finally if you like beer, as i suppose you do, GO TO BELGIUM. There's no better place for it and there's chocolate and fries all over. You get like a 5 page menu for beers only. The country is really small so you could like go from bruxelles to bruges in an hour. when in paris, take the time to buy your museum tickets in advance or make a reservation...it'll save you some time (a couple of hours maybe more now in the summer)...buy the ticket pack for the metro (it's the same for the bus) and prepare to eat a lot of bread while in france. don't go to EVERY single museun just beacause you feel like you have to. Some people don't like the louvre f.ex. and honestly if gets kind boring after some time. I agree with you. Go to the quartier latin. Keep in mind that most of the stores (except for the turistic stuff) are closed on sundays (i know!!!), that includes everything (malls, grocery stores, pharmacies, etc). Have fun...hope i could help |
