Students going to Europe!! Help!? |
Travel Info Hi, me and a friend are going to London, Paris, and Italy. We are going to do all the major historical and cultural things in these places, but I'm worried about us (esepcially him) getting bored. What are some things in these places to do that are geared more toward younger travelers. I just don't want to save up all my money then be ready to shoot myself if I step inside one more museum. Any help or advice is appreciated In addition, are there any major, forseeable problems we might have if we are both under 19? Travel Tips Must visits: The Statue of David in Florence. Herculeum British Museum Louvre Advice: You shouldn't get bored--there is always something to do. But it is more of a "museum" like nature. Just walking around Rome and marvelling at the bustling city of people headed to work apparently unaware of the majestic history with which they are surrounded is fascinating. Watch the people. It is the way they interact with other that gives Europe its charm. Even if you witness a fender bender, and can't understand a word of what the people are yelling at one another about, you learn a great deal about how these people think and act. One of my favorite memories in Greece was seeing a car accident. A big ol' guy had just bought a new car--literally walking out of the license house where he was getting his new plates, when an old truck totalled it. Clearly neither party was insured. The spoke Greek. The emotions on each of their faces, as each was trying to explain the situation to the other was priceless. The event went on for three or four hours. It was quite a spectacle, and eventually each had their entire families there to argue before the assembling masses their side of the stories. No one pulled out a gun! Second, it is assumed you are a drug user. Don't be! Every American teenager is assumed to be a drug user, and abuser. They fear you will kill them if they cross you. Europeans don't carry guns, and they think you do--because all Americans in all the movies they ever see always do. The police will arrest you in every town. "Arrest" there means hauled to the jail, and searched for weapons and drugs. If you are carrying drugs, they'll be confiscated, and you'll need to pay to get out of jail--it'll be $100.00 or so, and when you leave town, the next town will know you are coming, and they'll arrest you again. DO NOT CARRY DRUGS OR WEAPONS. I'd think that would be obvious, but as you meet other teenagers from America, you'll learn that they also have been arrested in every town, and they still buy more drugs. Others won't be boring. trust me There are loads of things to do in those places if you麓re young. Just walk around the markets, go to nightclubs and bars, avoid boring indoors museums and make sure you see the famous sites like the Eiffel Tower and Big Ben etc.. Stay in Youth Hostels and meet other young travellers. You麓ll have a great time!! You will not have any problems being 19. You麓ll probably find that you have more adult "priviledges" at 19 in Europe than in the US. And that comment above regarding drugs and weapons sounded a bit paranoid. I麓m from Europe, but I know loads of Americans who麓ve travelled through Europe and I麓ve never heard of people being arrested in every little town. And come on..most Europeans don麓t believe that all Americans carry weapons all the time.. Anyway, I guess you麓ll see wat Europeans are like when you get here. You麓ll find the northern ones very much like Americans and the more towards the south you go, the more temperamental they get.. Not much unlike moving towards Mexico ;)) Enjoy your trip! |
