Travel Info What are 5 things wrong with tourism in Eastern Europe? Travel Tips Not in particular order: 1) Lack of hotels 2) Lack of proper information 3) Lack of direct flight from major part of US 4) Lack of tourism promotion 5) Fear of old communism??? Others I don't know 5 things but they don't warn you about dangerous places. The country I visited years ago seemed okay till 10 p.m. one night when I heard machine gun fire in the town. I asked about it and was told that it was probably the mafia. A regular occurrence apparently. And all the doors were barred and gated too. There's nobody there! They've all hopped on trucks and made it into the UK!! Depends what you mean by "east" europe. Some consider Poland east some consider it central. Same thing with Austria, Hungary and Czech Republic. If by east you mean Belarus, Ukraine and other former soviet states totally different 5 things from Hungary and Czech Republic. In general East of Prague the English starts to decline (Not in Krakow though), quality of trains, and other things associated with less affluent countries. There are many more good things to think about then bad things in my opinion. The East is cheaper, usually less touristy, and did I say cheaper. But its really hard to generalize about east europe. Talk about specific countries you are planning to visit next time. Change "wrong with tourism" to "hard about traveling" and I'd say: 1. The language barrier (depends on you, too) 2. Some ordianary restaurants may require reservations. They may be completely empty, but you can't have a table (????) 3. Popular places like Prague and Krakow can get crowded in summer. Reserve ahead! 4. A discotheque in Budapest in August wasn't air conditioned, so it was like a steam bath in there. 5. People of color might not feel as welcome. |
