Backpackers : Do you go to museums while travelling?

Travel Info
Isn't it more fun to just stroll around and mix with locals, than waste your time at museums? I'm thinking of reducing my sightseeing time, and just enjoy getting lost in the city.
It's my first backpack.

Travel Tips
Well for me the whole cultural experience includes museums, sightseeing and mixing with the locals. Museums in europe are filled with amazing things that are a part of where you are visiting. I always hit the major sights of any cities I'm visiting during the day and mix with the locals at night in the pub. Try to make a game plan the night before of exactly what you plan to do the next day that way your maximize your precious time in europe. Get a guidebook. They are usually pretty candid about what's worth seeing and what isn't. I think Rick Steve's guides are especially good for this. Also check out Europe on a Shoestring by Lonely Planet - great for the backpacker. Just remember you are in their country and they are not put there to serve you. Be a good ambassador for your country and be polite with an attempt to speak the local language. At least be able to say hello and thank you. Just have fun and don't be afraid to be a camera totin tourist. My pictures from my trips have become my most valuable possession. Happy travels
