Where are some of the best places to travel due to strength of our US Dollar?

Travel Tips
Jon D is wrong "eastern Europe is not that fun". I guess he has never been here and reads too many tabloids.

You are smart for asking because, as you have already guessed, the un-strength of the US dollar means that a week of frolicking in London, Paris, Zurich, Rome, Munich will put you into debt for life.

As you are asking in the Europe-General section, we'll stick to Europe for this answer.

Tip one: Stay clear of the beaten track. All major cities and main tourist areas will be very expensive.

Tip two: Don't be afraid to do something different or look at something from a different angle.

Tip three: If you want to do the tourist track thing, travel off season. Last winter was so warm it was like springtime. Maybe you'll get lucky again this year. Off season for the Alps is the spring thaw and the autumn before it snows (Sept, Oct), for the cities it is the winter except New Year's.

So what does this mean:

If you want to see Greek ruins, go to Turkey. Check out the Aegean coast of Turkey, especially Ephesus, Pergamon (Bergama) and Troy. Food and accommodation in Turkey is generally inexpensive, and I highly suggest visiting TravelAdvisor (link below) to find some nice bed and breakfasts.

If you want to see European Gothic, Renaissance, Baroque visit central and eastern Europe. Prague is breathtaking but accommodations in hotels are not cheap; summer hostels are (about ten bucks a bed a night) but are also a little grungy. Look into smaller towns like Kutna Hora, Cesky Krumlov, Telc, and Olomouc in the Czech Republic and Krakow and Zamosc in Poland. Budapest is also absolutely charming and half the price of Vienna (so it's like Vienna prices if the dollar was reasonably healthy). Train travel between all is not expensive, with a one way 2nd class train ticket from Olomouc to Krakow costing about 30 dollars US.

If you want sun and fun, Bulgaria and Croatia are great! Dubrovnik in Croatia, Nesebar in Bulgaria - either will offer a great week and will not drill a hole in your wallet (well, except the airline ticket ....)

If you want alpine mountains without the Swiss price tag, the High Tatra mountains (Slovakia/Poland) are stunning and offer excellent hiking, rock climbing and caving. Zakopane in Poland is a favourite resort, but Slovakia is cheaper. Strbske Pleso, Slovakia, is accessible by rail.

Otherwise, look into countries whose economies are also tied to the dollar. I have never been to Costa Rica, but my brother says it's the best place he's ever been and he has travelled the world extensively. Other friends equally rave about Kenya and South Africa. Nowhere in Europe, the EU kills the dollar, plus the cost of living is enormous.

Maybe eastern Europe somewheres, but that's not too fun.
the value of the dollar is decreasing but id say latin america or africa or india
i went to india and we ate at this resturant for $10 american we were able to feed 6 people till they were overstuffed and still had left over the thng is if you travle in the cities it like new york city i would not recoment if you or anyone you go with dosnt know hindi becuse a translated will take advantage
Eastern Europe is a lot of fun. But the dollar is taking a beating here as well. Probably the best place is in the US where gas is half the price it is in Europe.
Strength of dollar? (weak dollar!) not in Europe!
One of the few places in Europe that is not that affected by the current weakness of the dollar is St. Petersburg in Russia and the Ukraine (Kiev, Yalta, Odessa and Lviv are nice).
