Can I send food to the Czech Republic?

I have three friends who are returning to the Czech Republic after a year in America. I want to send them a package of food and different things that they enjoyed while being here. I am just not sure whether it is legal to send the food or not, the usps website is rather vague on the issue and I was wondering if anybody knew?

I will admit that I have never studied the law, but in practice, anything you can bring on the plane over can also go in the mail.

Anything unperishable is okay. Unopened packages of peanut butter, recees peanut butter cups, marshmallows, graham crackers, cans of clam chowder, pumpkin pie filling -- all fine. Alcohol is also okay up to 2 litres of beer or 1 litre of wine or hard alcohol (now you aren't going to send them beer, are you?). Homemade chocolate chip cookies, fresh cranberries, a T-bone steak, Ben and Jerry's ice cream -- no, those can't go, your friends will have to come back to America again to enjoy those.

One little piece of advice -- underdeclare the value of the package, or try to make sure any package you send is under $50 in value (send two packages worth $40 each, for example). I have had to pay a 19% duty on packages I have received, and it seems $50 is the magic number as to whether the customs authority thinks it is worth it to impose a duty.

yes, you can send food any where as long as it is not bottle of liquors, or any imported alchool beverage. and it can not be spoilage food, or perishable items. for more information, go to any UPS STORE. they will be able to pack it up for you and tell you all the shipping cost, and what you can not ship.
