Best place to spend New Year's Eve in Europe?

Travel Info
I had the chance to study in Spain for a semester, a few years back, and ever since, I have been longing to return to Europe. I will be making a return after xmas for 2-4weeks, and want to make it really special, and do some things I missed out on the first time around. I realize that Europe is huge and its impossible to do everything, so I shouldnt be so upset. The first time I went I studied in Spain, and travelled to Portugal, England, Switzerland, Italy, and the Canary Islands. I was thinking about speinding New Years in Paris, and then venture to Amsterdamn, and Germany. Any thoughts? Based on the short time, I realized that I dont want to devote all my time on a bus, train, or plane, so ideally, I would like to pick a few cities and go. There is a place called Gimmalwald, Switzerland which looks amazing, but I am not sure how it is in the winter, snowy I assume.

Travel Tips
I spent a New Year's in Vienna and the whole old town area turned into a gigantic carnival without the games but lots of glu wine, hot struddel, live music and a square that people shoot off their own fireworks. It actually was a bit mayhemish but something I'll never forget.
Others
Berlin, Germany and the second place would have to be Munich, Germany. Germany is a beautiful country. BTW, another way to spend
New Years Eve is on a Rhine River Cruise. Go to
the German Embassy and find out more info on
making New Year Reservations and where to go!!
I spent 9 1/2 years in Germany with the US Army
and had a very good time traveling and making some real good German friends.

New Year's Eve in Paris is great. Everyone goes out. Every restaurant has a big special dinner (make sure to make reservations before you leave). At midnight everyone pours out into the streets and its quite a party.

Amsterdam is also a lot of fun and if you're going there from Paris you might want to stop and give Brussels a look. on the way. There's a lively music scene and some very good food. (the Belgians are the real masters of "French" fries).

If you're going to Germany than it has to be Berlin which is an extraordinary city.

Gimmelwald? I take it you've been sucked in by Rick Steves? Don't waste your time.
Don't listen to the above answerer. Rick Steves rocks, and Gimmelwald is such a superb place. It's remote and traffic-free and a good place to relax but definitely not the place to party out on New Year's Eve.

For New Year, any European capital would do: London, Paris, Berlin, Barcelona... London fireworks are amazing, and its nigthclubs are top-notch. I'd recommend London as a first choice.
