Can I take a train from Vienna to Pardubice? |
Travel Info I want to go to the World Juniors and it appears to be easier and cheaper to get a flight to Vienna than Prague. Travel Tips First, to answer your question -- yes, and there are direct connections. As far as Vienna being cheaper than Prague -- R/T train Prague Airport -Pardubice will set you back between 10 and 20 Euro. R/T Vienna Airport - Pardubice about 120 Euro. If the Vienna tickets are over 100 Euro ($120 or so) cheaper, you will save money. There is a shuttle bus from Vienna Airport to Wien S眉dbahnhof (south train station) that leaves on the half hour. The ride takes about 25 min. Then there are are direct fast trains to Pardubice hlavni nadrazi (main train station, often shortened as hl. n.), e.g. that leave at 13:33 and 15:33 and arrive in Pardubice 3 hours later. The "supercity" train is really nice. Going back may be a problem, though. If you have a flight out of Vienna earlier than 8:30 am you would need to overnight it in Vienna. That would put you back another small fortune, so really look at how much you would actually be saving. As to Prague, Czech Rail offers free connections from the airport to the train station and will usher you right onto the supercity train (it goes to Vienna and Pardubice is on the way). From the airport to Pardubice it will take about two hours and it costs 300 Czech crowns. And you would not have problems getting to the airport if you have an early morning flight going back. Lastly, if disaster strikes (you oversleep), a taxi would be able to save the day for the equivalent of under $100 (or less if you can bargain under stress). Use the timetables below to see how connections would work before you book. Good luck and have fun! PS I see the World Juniors will also be held in Liberec, which is N-NE of Prague, best reached from Prague by bus and rather inconvenient from Vienna. In light of that, you may want to look into air tickets to Dresden, which is also convenient to both Liberec and Pardubice by train. Vienna airport is "Flughafen Wien" and for Pardubice you want "Pardubice hl. n." Other Travel Tips Yes, but you will have to change trains at Breclav. Total travel time should be around 3-3.5 hours http://reiseauskunft.bahn.de/bin/query.e... |
