Can anyone tell me if Milan is really a dead town in mid- to late August and that close to zero shops are open

Travel Tips
A lot of the shops throughout Italy are closed in August because that's when most Italians are on vacation. Many of the fashion-oriented and other businesses are closed in Milan. There are two hotels in the town where I'm living and both are closed for three weeks in August as are most of the restaurants. This isn't a tourist destination. A better time to visit is September to early October. Most businesses reopen, there are fewer tourists, and the temperatures aren't so high.
