Can Anyone Tell Me About Pristina in Serbia and the University of Pristina? |
Travel Info I have an opportunity to go there for work and I've heard there are many problems since the war. They have no computer access or computer cafes, they do not have a good power source and always have blackouts...their phone system does not work properly....is this all hype or can you give me some insight, please? Thank you. Travel Tips Hi.. Firstly.. Pristina is the capital of Kosovo (which is currently , nominally a province of Serbia, however it in the process of independence negations).. The University of Pristina is now two universities.. In Pristina.. it is an Albanian.. The Serbian part split after 1999, and is now based in Kosovska Mitrovica If you are in Pristina.. itself, it is best not to say.. 'Pristina is in Serbia'.. The local population do not like that.. and are mostly for independence.. You also won't have much need for Serbian.. because Albanian is the local language there. (In Kosovska Mitrovica you won't use Albanian.. only Serbian) However English is VERY widely spoken.. because of the large international presence.. and you can easily manage with just English.. I think your information.. is rather outdated and exaggerated.. They are some powercuts.. but they are not very frequent now.. and as an international.. they probably won't affect you.. as you will probably be located in the best areas like 'dragodan' and have your own sources.. They certainly do have internet cafes!!!!!, you won't have problems accesing the internet.. I think you should certainly go , if you have the chance.. The situation is quite stable now.. Though they might be some protests or incidents.. because Kosovo is currently in the last stage of 'final status' talks.. However this shouldn't affect foreigners.. Pristina is quite an ugly city (sorry if I offended anyone!) but does have nice atmosphere.. And there are many beautiful places to visit in Kosovo in your freetime. Such as Prizren.. and the serbian monasteries of Gracanica, Decani, Pec etc.. http://www.travelkosova.com/ http://www.kosovo.net/mones.html... Before you go it is IMPORTANT to read the history of Kosovo.. And to know something about the situation.. especially between the local Serb and Albanian populations..as it is important to be sensitive to the different opinions on Kosovo Wikipedia is an OK place for quick overview.. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/kosovo... I have given you some links to information about the currect situation in Kosovo. The first page is the most pratical for expats..And gives you details about current living conditions.. http://www.mtcowgirl.us/ http://www.unmikonline.org/ http://www.euinkosovo.org/index.php... http://kosovo.birn.eu.com/en/1/50/?tpl=9... |
