English to Croatian? |
Travel Info It would be very useful is someone could help me by translating these following phrases from English into Croatian. I'm going on holiday soon and realised i would probably need them: "Does this food contain any nuts?" "I have an allergy to all types of nuts" "I cannot eat nuts" Thanks a lot. Travel Tips "Da li u ovoj hrani ima oraha/lje拧njaka?" "Imam alergiju na sve vrste ko拧tunjavog vo膰a" "Ne smjem da jedem lje拧njake/orahe." Nut,s are 'orah', pl. 'orasi', but knowing about the allergy, I'd say also 'lje拧njak', as this is 'hazelnut' in Croatian. edit: Ivana is not right about "ne mogu jesti" as it means something else: "Ne mogu jesti" means 'I can't eat', 'I don't feel like it or I just can't for other reasons', while "Ne smjem jesti" means 'I shouldn't eat' or even 'I mustn't eat', which is the state of allergy. Modals are different in English and require more preciseness. Others You might as well not eat the sweets there. Haha. Goxy is mostly correct, and everyone would understand you, BUT there are parts that are Serbian. Croatian: Ima li u ovoj hrani ora拧astih plodova? Alergi膷an sam na sve ora拧aste plodove. Ne mogu jesti ora拧aste plodove. We dont have a special word for "nuts", just, what you would translate as "nutty products" :) meaning hazelnuts, almonds, peanuts and such; hence the "ora拧asti plodovi". Hope this helped :) Im Croatian. |
