What do you know about Lithuania? (if you know anything at all...) :)? |
Travel Info HI, whenever I start conversation with someone, they ask where I'm from. When I reply: 'Lithuania', most of the times I see blank face in front of me with a message saying 'I've got no idea where that is..'. So I'm wondering, how many people (without looking in Google) know about this country? Travel Tips When it comes to the UK, I know their overall lack of interest in the EU. Here's an illustration. (I can just imagine what it's like in the US and other continents if people in Europe are so uninformed.) Almost one in ten Brits thinks that a country called Luvania joined the EU in 2004, according to a survey carried out by telecoms outfit One.Tel. The company invited punters to correctly identify the 10 new member states, and added the fictional nation as a bit of a jape. Eight per cent of the 2,500 who took part picked the sun-kissed republic of Luvania. One.Tel spokeswoman Carol Barnes said: "People aren't generally aware. They're more involved in their day-to-day lives rather than the bigger picture of what is going on in the EU." Which can be taken to read either: "They don't give a tinker's cuss about the EU", or "They're thick". Or both. I myself know the basic facts and have a rather clear picture of it. Others its near bosnia sort of Someone once told me that in Lithuania calling someone a 'Bullfrog' was an insult. I do not know the veracity of that statement....but, it is the first thing that came to mind when I read your question. Guess I could use some brushing up on my knowledge of Lithuania, eh? :) I am sure it is a beautiful country though. ;) Lithuania - home of the best vanilla vodka in the world. Small country in the Baltic group, recently joined to the EU and in some ways seemingly struggling to leave the past behind. Great countryside around Vilnius to tour and visit. I do. Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia. :) It used to be part of the Russian territory. Do I get a candy bar for that? I might know it because I used to live in Europe, too. I know that Lithuania has had a difficult relationship with the Soviet Union, and now Russia. Lithuanian identity has been destroyed by the Soviet domination of the country, and even today, Lithuania bordered by Russian enclaves that threaten its security. Lithuania became a part of the European Union in 2004, which rankles the Russians, but demonstrates that Lithuania is a modern democratic state that is striving to integrate into the western, democratic, world. a baltic republic get independence from ussr |
