Trying to understand European currency? |
Travel Info I 'm going to Europe in a month, what do you suggest with money? Debit, Credit card, or cash? Where would I go to exchange my cash? And is the same currency used in Ireland? Travel Tips Can sort of agree with most answers but .... Dont use euros in the UK. They may be accepted but you get an awful rate of exchange. Likewise dollars can be accepted but you will not usually get a decent exchange rate. Shop around for currency exchange bureaux to change dollars into local currencies. Always ask for small denomination local notes - see below. The definitive guide to proper exchange rates is the european central bank see - http://www.ecb.eu/stats/exchange/eurofxr... For those countries who use the euro, see http://www.ecb.eu/bc/euro/html/index.en.... Credit cards widely accepted but nobody likes to accept credit cards for things less than about 50 euros and also beware a lot of cafes and bars do not accept high denomination notes eg 50 euro notes. Not only have there been a few forgery scams but cafes and bars dont want to give away all their loose change. Often to use a credit card you need to show some photo ID. As with all cities, beware the pickpockets and handbag snatchers. Invest in a good money belt and keep most money and passport well protected. Enjoy your vacation. Others credit card youre insured that way debit card is good. im going to ireland next week and i use american express travellers cheques, and its euros there enjoy your trip good luck Its a doddle, just add 陆 more on top of a pound & your about there. debit card or credit card both are OK..Europe is already civilised They have banks and ATM machines and money changers Most of Europe use the Euro (including Ireland) and it is roughly $1.35 to the Euro. Britain (including Northern Ireland) uses the pound sterling and it is roughly $2 to 拢1. The best thing is to buy most things with credit card but you will need some cash. You are better off changing money at home before you go to Europe as most will allow you to change back to dollars at no extra comission. You can get cash from ATMs in each country, but you will be charged a fee for the service and interest from the day you withdrew the cash. credit or debit |
